Schonhoff This wonderful machine has so many advantages over using my printer and scanner that I barely know where to start. Here's what I fell in love with in my little home office: 1) Stand-alone fax and copying. Even if the PC is completely turned off, or busy doing something else, this is a "real" copier and fax machine. It makes my office feel all grown up. 2) A document feeder that didn't feel cheap or added-on makes a big difference. This thing doesn't just do what a copier or fax is capable of doing, it does it the same way. It has a 100% intuitive, sturdy document feeder and stacker. 3) Really good print quality, and good speed. The color print is better than my Epson (which was very highly rated) and quite fast. The 600 dpm black and white is almost like a laser, although no inkjet has ever truly matched a laser yet. 4) It's got all the serious features, like a decent-sized paper tray, that my printer never had. Unlike the scanner/printer solution I'd been using, I can copy and fax without storing files on the PC. And when I do scan, the software is smart enough to do things like re-orient the document a little when it's not scanned squarely. Cool! 5) The setup was trivially easy on my 3-year-old PC (which, admittedly, is running Windows 98). 6) Even though it LOOKS big, it's really no bigger than my printer was - just taller. Frankly it's got a certain "real office" cachet that's very appealing. 7) Obvious, well-labeled controls that never required me to read a manual. 8) Smart features abound. I noticed that as a copier, it starts printing the portion of the page that it has scanned already even before it finishes scanning the entire page. This makes the output (or faxing?) faster - very sensible. For me (and my wife) this was the one multi-function gizmo worth waiting for. For those of us who used scanners and printers separately for years, we learned the hard way that they just weren't very good at being fax machines and copiers. Having one device that can do ALL those things and still be a great home printer is just wonderful. One quibble, though - the scanner top is not legal sized. The copier can copy legal documents and accept them through the document feeder, but you can't scan bigger than A4 paper. 106 of 108 people found the following review helpful. Fab overall, but some users might have specific problems By tropic_of_criticism For what this machine does, and the market it serves, there's no better equipment out there. There are many office situations where having a separate scanner, printer, and FAX is simply impossible. For reasons of sheer space allocation alone, you need to compress all three into a single unit. If you're in such a need, it's doubtful you'll find a better overall solution than the G85. There's a lot that's great about this machine. I love the front panel button array, and the vast extent to which the device can be used without referencing the computer. The computer doesn't even have to be on for you to get faxes. The printer is, as you'd expect from HP, entirely top-notch. It's very cool, too, that you can choose to fax and copy in either black and white or color. Still, it falls short in a number of mostly minor, but hugely frustrating, ways. First, I personally think it's ridiculous that it only scans letter-sized paper. No other combination product I've seen does any better, of course, but clearly an office needs to be able to scan legal sized paper. Second, this printer doesn't support DOS applications. In fact, no modern "combination" product does. And that makes sense, I guess. DOS is a non Y2K compliant operating system, so why bother maintaining it? Well, you bother, it seems to me, if there are still businesses out there who could possibly be running critical DOS-based software where the Y2K problem has been overcome, or where it was never relevant

Built-in duplex printing and copying. Auto Image Fix feature that automatically optimizes your photos. With built-in networking, everyone in the office can easily share the device. Vivid Photos and Laser-Quality Text--Fast! Canon's newly developed Pigment Reaction (PgR) ink system incorporates a higher-intensity black pigment, a clear ink, and specially formulated color pigment inks for superior results for all your prints. This unique system coats the paper with clear ink before it reaches the print head, helping the colors more effectively bond together for better saturation and brightness. And since each color comes in its own tank, you only need to replace the color that runs out, reducing waste and saving you money. Offering prints at up to 4800 x 1200 dpi color resolution, photos exhibit continuous tone and look like they are fresh from the photo lab. In addition to the PgR ink system, the printer has a print head capable of producing two-picoliter ink droplets for exacting detail. You don't have to wait long for your prints either--a 4 x 6-inch borderless print takes only about 43 seconds. When printing business documents, the MX7600 churns out prints at up to 28 pages per minute (ppm) in mono, and 23 ppm in color. Because the printer has two paper feeders, less time needs to be spent loading or changing media. With a built-in duplexer, you don't have to waste your time standing by the printer flipping sheets when you want to print on both sides. And you don't have to wait for the machine to slowly start up either; the unit is ready for use in about five seconds after power up. The printer is network-ready thanks to its built-in Ethernet connection. Just connect it to your home or office network, and your networked computers can share the printer. The printer also features a built-in memory card slot that allows you to print photos straight from a memory card without a computer. With the printer's LCD, you can look at the pictures you want printed, and with Auto Image Fix, picture quality is automatically optimized. PgR technology uses a clear ink along with pigments for the best print quality. Duplex Scanning and Copying The MX7600 features a built-in Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) that holds up to 35 sheets and enables automatic duplexing for copies and scans, leaving you free to work on other tasks while the printer does all the work. The scanner offers up to 4800 dpi resolution at a 48-bit color depth for scans that pick up even the most minute detail. And thanks to Canon's advanced copy technology, the MX7600 copies graphics and documents with faithful accuracy. High-Speed Fax The device can achieve Super G3 fax speeds (33.6 Kbps), which allows the fastest fax transfers, and it can fax both black-and-white and color pages. The device's built-in memory will store 100 coded speed dials and up to 250 incoming pages--features that are especially useful for long faxes or if you run out of paper. The Canon MX7600 All-In-One Printer is compatible with Windows (including Vista) and Macintosh operating systems. The printer measures 19.7 x 21.1 x 10.1-inches (WxHxD) and weighs 36.6 pounds. It is backed by a 1-year warranty. What's in the Box: Canon MX7600 printer, five cleaning sheets, document kit, ink tanks (PGI-7 and PGI-9), power cord, print head, telephone line cable. The MX7600 provides printing, faxing, scanning, and copying all from one device.

Most helpful customer reviews 72 of 75 people found the following review helpful. Good office machine, but photos are just OK By J. Veazey Bottom Line: This is a good multifunction inkjet. All functions range from adequate to very good.Pros: The scanner is very good, with an auto feeder, and scan quality is good for both documents and photos. The print speed and quality is good. Having 2 paper sources (bottom plain paper cassette, rear feeder) is a time saver. The auto-duplex printing is very handy. Fax quality is good. Auto feeding for faxes is nice, but not something I will use that much. Builtin networking, so I don't need to have a PC continuously powered up when the family laptops want to print. Photo prints have good detail and shading. Printing directly from various memory cards and cameras is easy.Cons: Photo prints colors need some tweaking. It's all a bit bright with a tendency toward a very slight pink cast. Admittedly, I have not done that many color photos as yet. Tones and shades are not as accurate as a printer with more colors. This one has 6 ink tanks, but 2 of them are shades of black, so printing must be done with 4 colors. This printer is adequate for amateur snaps, but won't replace a dedicated photo printer. No scanning of film or negatives. Printer is large but that's a given with this many functions. 44 of 45 people found the following review helpful. Not as top of the line as it should be! By Roger Sadowsky I am a very big fan of Canon printers and All-In Ones. I previously have had the MP780 and the MP830 of which I had no complaints and would have rated 4-5 stars. My complaints with the 7600 are:1) slow to print first page2) cannot use regular paper from the rear paper loader (only the cassette).3) a bit noisy before and after printing.4) ink only available onlineIf I had to buy again, I would go with the MP850. 39 of 44 people found the following review helpful. MX 7600 extremely disappointing, noisy and no ink By C. Barwis The Canon MX 7600 is very noisy. It annoyingly clicks and clacks for minutes after it is done printing, and while speed of page printing itself is OK, the printer waits for up to a minute to start printing many times. I've had the machine for 2 weeks and already it has started jamming paper every 15 sheets or so. And the ink required by the MX 7600 is not sold over the counter by any store in New York City. No stores even list the ink, so you have to buy it online. And Canon's support dept. was absolutely no help whatsoever with coming up with a solution. How can Canon launch a product and not provide the ink anywhere!I replaced a Canon MP 780 which I liked, after it wore out, with this MX 7600 and am extremely disappointed and will now try another company's products. One last inconvenience to note, unlike the Canon MP780, paper for normal use in the MX7600 cannot be loaded from the rear, but must be loaded from the front cassette which holds less paper. This machine is perfect for small offices By Albert For our small office of 6 people, we have been looking for an office machine that is easy to operate, reliable, and cost-effective. The four contenders are HP 3330 MFP, Canon D680 imageClass, Brother MFC 9700, Brother MFC 8820D. They are all 4-in-1/5-in-1 machines(Fax, Laser printer, Scanner, Copier, Data/Fax modem) priced below US$800. Brother MFC 9700 is cheaper but comes with a 14.4k modem and only 8MB memory and a smaller flatbed; as the result it faxes and prints slower than MFC 8820D. The remaining three candidates all have excellent "pedigrees" and are well designed and built. However Brother MFC 8820D won at the end for the following outstanding reasons:1. The 'D' in 8820D stands for duplex copying and printing: It works seamlessly and effortless. There is no need for removing the paper tray manually (really tedious). Duplex "fax receive" saves 30% to 50% of paper by having fax printed on both sides. Now one can have some break from the cost of receiving junk faxes.2. 32MB memory: This is more than enough for holding a lot of copies and faxes. Very good for large unattended jobs. The best part about this is again about cost. No immediate need to spend more money for upgrading the memory as is required for Canon D680 (measly 2 MB).3. PC fax software for computer data/fax needs.4. Expandability for network interface.5. Digital paper count to indicate the no. of copies made and faxes received: good for cost management and safe guard against potential abuse of the machine by employees for personal uses.6. Excellent ADF (automatic document feeder): we have not had any paper jam so far.7. Very easy to program and operate: simple to use for beginners and sophisticated features for users who demand more advanced functions.8. Last but not the least is the cheaper cost for its toner on a per page basis. There are only two minor drawbacks for us:1. MFC 8820D's ADF/scanner does not scan a page from edge to edge. However this is true of all machines in this price range. Canon D680 omits the least at both margins. HP 3330 is the worst.2. Large footprint. We had to relocate it to a different room in the office where there is enough space instead of putting it at a more convenient place where there is easier access. Nevertheless it's not too bad considering that it replaces 4 separate machines all at once. Besides it forces us to walk down the hallway and get some exercies!! ;--] 15 of 16 people found the following review helpful. Brother DCP-8040 Digital Copier, Scanner, Printer

The DCP-8040 is a great companion to your existing fax machine in your home office or for your small, medium or even large business. It has a legal size document glass which is convenient for copying and scanning documents or information from bound documents. With PCL 6 and Post-Script Level emulations, it will produce crisp and professional-looking documents. It also has a single-sheet bypass tray for printing envelopes, labels or on company letterhead. Most helpful customer reviews 10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. Good printer - not so good scanner. By Erik Schultz I have had my DCP-8040 for a week now. I wanted a laser printer, and I'm quite satisfied with this unit's printing abilities and speed. Its a great improvement over a cheap inkjet in every way, except for the lack of color - but I didn't have any particular need for color printouts. But the feature that drew me to this unit was the 14-inch scanner on top. I would have bought a stand-alone printer if the scanner didn't tempt me. I have a standard scanner that I picked up for $20 at a sidewalk sale last year, and it works well. I bought it to scan my japanese laserdisc jackets (which are a little more than 12x12 inches). In order to scan the jackets with my old scanner, I had to scan each cover four times and then assemble the pieces. I thought with this new scanner I could cut that in half. But the scanning software Brother has provided leaves a LOT to be desired. For starters, you can't use the full plate. There is thus about an inch of glass that the scanner light covers, but cannot be accessed. That wouldn't be so bad, but except that its on BOTH edges! In other words, instead of placing what you want to scan in the corner along two edges, like with a normal scanner, you have to center it, carefully, by hand, along the exact center of one edge. Also, for some reason, my two scans are skewed way off somehow, such that if I try to blend the images together there are clearly missing portions along the sides, meaning I have to scan in four parts to get everything, and since this scanner doesn't scan any faster than my old $20 one at 300dpi, I've spent an extra $100 for nothing. Oh, also, my old scanner would turn the light off after a few minutes of inactivity. This unit's light is on AT ALL TIMES, unless you power the whole thing off. Cute. So, my advise - skip this unit and go with a stand-alone Brother printer. And somebody else's scanner. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. 4 stars for printing, copying and -1 for scanning By Ms. Rosicella T. Halvorson printing with this is about the best i have seen in a really long time. copying is pretty quick and easy but scanning has something left to be desired. it takes forever and i still cant master it. i do sorta wish now that i do have it that i would have gotten a color printer but being i got a great deal at costco . com i really cant complain. 0 of 1 people found the following review helpful. work usarge for 5 years now By Deborah L. Not Recommended By Lance D. Gillette I received this printer On October 7, 2004. Initial results on my photo quality labels was impressive. But it didn't last. Soon the printer had problems pulling the paper into the printer and then alignment on my labels was off. Yesterday I printed some checks on cheque paper and the printing was not well aligned, i.e. crooked. I hope to return this item. 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. By L S After going through so many bad printers within a year (hp 3420 & 3320) I use this photo smart printer mainly for photos which does an exceptional job. However, if you are going to use the color ink and photo ink together, avoid printing any black and white documents, it will take forever and prints in an off-black color. For me this is minor, you would expect that if you don't use a black cartridge in most photo printers. I have seperate printer for document printing.I also have this printer for over a year and so far no problems, it does not "gulp" ink or give me much paper jams. You will be satisfied for the price you pay, reasonable fast borderless printing with professional quality and great card reader features. I highly recommend. See all 16 customer reviews...

I had extra ink cartridges on hand, and they're expensive, so I continued to use it, even though I was hand-feeding just about everything. It was a rare occasion when it fed two sheets of ordinary copy paper consecutively. So, finally I gave up in disgust and bought the Photosmart 7150 Inkjet a few days ago.It feeds well, and tonight I just finished printing 32 old family black and white photos, four copies of each,4 up on each 8.5" X 11" sheet of Kodak glossy photopaper. The quality is superb! At least as good as the prints you would expect from a quality photo shop. I should say that, on the best quality setting, the printer is extremely slow. But the quality makes the wait worthwhile. Also, it assists in the drying for the picture to come through slowly.I had a heck of a time getting 4 up of the same picture on a single sheet. Finally, I went to Corel Draw 8 (Corel Photo Paintdidn't help) and imported 4 copies of the same picture and enlarged them to fill the sheet. It worked fine, and now I know how to do it in the future. The printer is inexpensive, and I hope it continues to feed properly. The best printer I ever had was an HP Laserjet, which I bought in 1989. My experience with that one keeps me coming back to Hewlett Packard. I've had three or four printers since then, and except for the 890C they've all met my expectations. Now, if only they would come up with a printer that was fast, as well as capable of good quality...Joseph Pierre 31 of 34 people found the following review helpful. Beyond All Expectations! By D. Scheeler Put the old camera & film in the attic for nostalgia sake! Get a 2 MP digital or higher and print your photos with this printer! The 4"x6" tray is a plus for album & framed prints and the 8x10 tray is fine for multiple prints on one page (called albums). I use desktop publishing programs to create collages of pictures as well. The photo print quality of the HP is magnificent! People who see my photos cannot believe a printer produced them with such vivid color and clarity. I have made "memories" CD's using my cdwriter and imported background music for the "slide shows". The HP software does it all - follow the directions. User friendly and the ink goes a long way! Don't pass on this one - I paid ... only 3 months ago and it's worth much more -it's on sale so run for it! Print only what you like and you will LOVE what you print! 17 of 18 people found the following review helpful. Excellant Printer By A Customer This is my third HP and the results just keep getting better. The 7150 is stylish and well designed. The printer has a 4 x 6 photo tray that allows 20 sheets of photo paper to be loaded and printed in a batch mode directly from HP's excellant photo printing / album layout software. Even with the 20 sheets of 4 x 6 paper loaded you can still print on regular paper via a lower paper tray. Prints using the photo color cartridge are stunning. I have to say I sold my Epson 820 in no time flat and even made my Canon friend blush when he saw how incredible the prints are. As always the big advantage to HP is the quality. These printers don't jam, don't need head cleaning and don't require tweaking to get the results you see on screen. See all 10 customer reviews...

By Craig A Stuart After trying 2 Epson 785EPX's and having trouble with the USB driver install, system locks and unacceptable white dot tracks all over the photos - cursing like I never have before, I decided to try HP & their brand new cp1700. Died and went to heaven! The results are STUNNING!! Printer sets up in 10 minutes, my entire computer runs three times faster (for some odd reason the Epson slowed everything down)and the photos are brilliant! (The paper feed on the new Epsons have real problems, that's what creates the white dot tracks, read other consumer reviews on the 785) This HP was up and kicking like no other hardware I've ever seen, amazing. Agreed that the price is more, but guess what? More than worth it, much more! Way to go HP, if there was a 6th star, you'd get it! Let alone the ability to print crystal clear 12 by 16's. Wow! 18 of 19 people found the following review helpful. Solidly built but with numerous quirks... By JoJo I purchased this printer for my company, an architectural firm, mid 2002. Upon first glance, this printer seemed amazingly well built with a modern design, albeit a bit of a space hog. I had hoped for the best with this puppy since it was the most expensive piece of printing equipement besides our HP plotter.Anywhooo, as the puppy has grown out of its early stages of life, I have grown increasingly frustrated with it. For one, I don't understand why, but the dpi resolution just does not compare to other ink jets on the market. Even at the highest quality setting and on premium paper, images appear muddied and bereft of any vividness. I've seen better quality from printers a third of its price. Secondly, this printer can not do borderless prints, which is FINE. I can deal with that; however, I can not tolerate the printer being unable to print less than 3/4 of an inch near the left margin. What the heck is going on here? No matter what software I'm using, Photoshop, Dell Picture Studio, Epson Film Factory, yada yada yada, it becomes tremendoulsy painful to accurately center a picture on a page; in fact, if you don't adjust the printer settings carefully, the printer will willy nilly print straight off the right side of a page as if it suddenly wishes to become like its borderless Epson cousin.I would expect a printer to recognize the paper edges and halt printing if the paper isn't there. Nope, that's not the case here, it will just dump ink inside the machine to soak deep within. I thought this was a driver problem at first and I even upgraded the firmware and drivers; result: same [stuff], different day....One other gripe: This printer is by no means fast, especially when printing high quality on premium glossy paper. The other Hp 5550 I also just purchased for my office is at least twice as fast when printing regular color text pages and it cost a quarter the price. So, the pluses to this printer is that it is extremely well built and looks terrific in a nice corporate environment. In terms of functionality, look elsewhere folks. I've had it with this model.***MAY 15, 2003 UPDATE***The printer died a few weeks ago, so I traded it in... The new one seems to not have the margin problem which is a needed relief. All other factors remain the same. 9 of 11 people found the following review helpful. The ONLY colourr laser replacement By Mr. Timothy S. Parkin ... Until I saw this printer and realised I could have everything that the magicolor had in A3+. This really is a workhorse of a printer. Consumables are reasonable for an office printer and it's great to have not only separate ink tanks for each colour but also separate print heads for each colour also. The duplexing is great. It will print on 300gm card and also prints up to 3mm from the edge of the page (I have an edge bleed design on my stationary design and now print all my own). The final win is the 250 page second tray

It's about the same price and it includes automatic duplexing (that's the 'D' in the model #) and it includes a network interface (that's the 'N' in the model #). Definitely don't go for a 7xxx model. The 8xxx models use high capacity cartridges which means about seventy bucks for > 6000 pages instead of fifty bucks for about 2000 pages for the 7xxx models. Think about it. After just a couple toner cartridges you'll have paid for the better machine!I didn't buy mine on Amazon as they don't sell the MFC-8820DN. I don't know why - it's much better IMHO. 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. huge on the desk top By Karen Woodworth Roman I am fairly happy with this machine. It takes up a lot of space on my desk, but as I use it all day long, I don't really want to put it across the room. I mostly use the print feature. It has only jammed a few times in the year or so that I have used it. As for the scans, they usually come out crooked, but I don't often need high quality scans, so I'm ok with that most of the time. I've only used the OCR once or twice and it did ok. It made some mistakes, but the font on the original was rather small. We also have the similar model with the fax Brother MFC-8460n 30ppm Network Multifunction Laser Printer and we are happy with it, too. It makes good copies, but I don't usually try two sided printing or copying on this machine. 6 of 7 people found the following review helpful. copier review By Daniel Williams This copier is much slower than expected. It also doesn't copy thicker paper very well. It jams when we try to copy on two sides. It curls after copying the first side, then we have to wait a long time and flatten the paper before we can copy the other side. The quality of the copies are good. See all 8 customer reviews...

This unit does that very well. The two paper trays that each hold up to 11x17 paper are a rare find in this price range. The unit makes no noise when in sleep mode and wakes up quickly to make printing a no-wait process. The only downfall I have found so far is that if it is hooked up to a phone line it will answer the phone...regardless if it is a voice or a fax call. This is bad for me as I share one phone line between the fax and voice calls so I have to leave the fax unhooked until I hear the tell-tale fax sound.Other than that this has proven to be a great piece of office equipment. 7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Great Copier/Printer for the price By Howard S. Travis The Canon MF7460 is a great choice for the small office. This is used in a church, with a Risograph used for larger production runs. We've owned a Canon copier before (for the last seven years) and have been impressed with the reliability. This was purchased for the automatic duplex and collating capabilities. For collation, the sheet feeder takes and scans all of the pages into memory, and then prints them in collated order - very useful. The 11x17 paper size, and auto two-sided copies are great.Negatives: rather slow at 20-25 pages per minute. Also, we don't use the fax feature (not connected to phone line), so we can't comment on this. See all 2 customer reviews...

Great combination of inkjet and print server By mister_t42 I tried this printer hoping it would allow me to share a printer for use by a combination of macs and XP machines. I've tried hanging a printer off one machine and then sharing it, but kept having issues when crossing OS platforms (XP to Mac, or vice versa). Well, the integrated print server in the IP4000R did the trick. It works great with Macs under OSX and with my XP machines. The printer can either plug right into the network if you are wired for Ethernet, or it can be accessible over WiFi. Select any machine (XP or Mac) to configure using the included USB cable and CD. After setting up the printer over the cable, just unplug it and you are ready to connect over your network from other machines by installing the driver off the CD. I run a combination of wireless and wired, and it works great (in my case I elected to use a wired connection to the printer since there was a jack in the right location) with all machines.Did I mention that the printer is terrific too. I'd rate it as a great text printer (color and/or B&W), and a decent photo printer. If you don't need the print server capability, just go for the standard IP4000 and save your money. But if you have a mixed hardware environment, or don't want to use an external printer server (many of them a quirky), then this combination is a home run. 47 of 47 people found the following review helpful. Print without wires By Michael T. Callihan I picked this up to replace a 3 year old Epson 785EPX and my trusty old SMC router w/ print server so that I could more easily operate wirelessly at home. Prior to the 785, I owned a workhorse Epson 640.The Canon handles photo printing just as well as the last Epson for the most part. I don't really miss the extra 2 colors and I definitely don't miss the noise that the Epson cranked out. The Canon sits 5 feet behind my desk and if there is any ambient noise in the office at all, I have to turn around and look to see if paper is moving through the machine because it's not loud enough to hear! That's nice. The wireless is great, even though my secondary PC had trouble "finding" it. I was able to manually configure a port and move on. Both home machines use XP SP2.I was surprised to find that the Canon also displaces my laser printer! I can't believe how sharp and fast this text prints on the multi-purpose Staples paper. You just have to see it to believe it.Now, before I wrote this review, I wanted to see how the Canon handled my big annual print job - our photo quality Christmas cards. We send about 50 cards with the kids' picture on them. Print speeds were on par with the older Epson, but I think if I hadn't wanted borderless prints, it would have been faster. It was certainly no slower than the Epson. Anyway, all the cards printed great. The paper handling was noticeably better than the Epson as the Canon fed all sheets one at a time, no jams, no double-feeds. And the big surprise of the night - after printing all the cards with a 5.5" by 8.5" fully saturated photo on each one, the ink levels had hardly budged from full!A couple features I haven't tried yet are the PictBridge interface for compatible digital cameras and the secondary paper tray. You can, for example, load 4x6 glossy photo paper in that extra tray and be ready to handle walk-up photos from your camera at any time. Very convenient. The Canon is an amazing printer. Print quality is fantastic. Consumable usage appears to be ludicrously low and the ink is much cheaper than HP or Lexmark already. It's remarkably quiet and fast (especially for text). And the wireless capabilities mean I can locate and relocate it anywhere around the house as I choose. If you don't really need the wireless, save some money and get the ip4000 (instead of this ip4000R).Great job Canon! You have converted an Epson disciple. 19 of 20 people found the following

Andrews This is a good machine, but as many have pointed out the software can be a problem. Here's some software install advice (below) to make it work well for you.I have a Brother laser AIO at my office that I love, but I chose this HP for my home for several reasons. The WiFi Brother unit has a 10 page document feeder compared to HP's 25 page. This was important to me, maybe not you. I really like the styling of the HP better. The HP rep was in Best Buy and printed off a photo for me. It was fantastic. I've reproduced the same results at home, though I didn't buy it as a photo printer. The Brother has a phone handset hanging off the side that I will never use. The HP looks & feels like a higher quality product, though the Brother reviews are good.Follow the quick start guide to set up on your LAN. I have WEP and had no problems...literally a couple minutes to setup.1st, in general, never use photo manipulation software that these printer companies provide. If you need to work with photos invest in a good commercial product. There's some reasonabally priced products.2nd. Trash the disk that comes with the printer and go straight to HP.com and download the latest drivers. That have fixes most of the problems the other reviews point out. You have two download options, drivers only or full software. I did drivers only and it worked fine, however you loose control of some of the units settings, so I went back and got the full package. However, I highly recommend this installation method that I used.Unzip the download and run. then...1. Choose the custom (not the "easy" recommended) installation option.2. Choose "NO" on the next pages which asks if you want to do auto updates. Anytime you select this for any product you now have another application running in the background all the time polling the internet. It will slow your computer down.3. On the next screen select "custom". Don't be afraid, ever if you're not an "advance user" as it recommends.4. You get a screen with a bunch of options to install. The first one you have to select, the drivers. Then uncheck "shop for HP" (just crap), "HP Updater" (memory & bandwidth eater), "customer particapition program" (memory & bandwidith eater), "smart web printing" (you can try it, but more resident sw to eat up cpu and memory), "HP photosmart essentials" (not essential and from what I read it's crappy software. You can try it, but it'll save you 40MB not to install), "OCR" (unless you really use OCR. If you use it a lot, buy a good program, this will save you another 80MB).What you do select is obviously "drivers" (it makes you & you do need this), "Solution Center" (no actual solutions here, but it does give you some control over your settings), "imaging & device functions".Choose the default directory it recommends, unless you really know what you're doing and want another directory.Choose "connect through network", if you are connecting through the WiFi. Make sure you get the printer on the network first, as the directions tell you.Don't sign up for the HP offers crap, unless you like spam.I'm used to the Brother scanning SW, but now that I'm getting used to the particulars of HP's it's not too bad. I do have a problem scanning from the plate glass from Adobe Acrobat. It works fine with the doc feeder, but for some reason not the glass. I just go to the "solution center" and tell it to scan to a pdf and it works fine.I did jump on the HP support site around midnight and have a live chat with a support person. He's the one who informed me I need to install more than basic drivers to gain some control over settings. I found the support helpful, but I didn't exactly have a brain teaser of a question either.Good luck...and don't install that darn auto updater. 208 of 212 people found the following review helpful. By basharx I love this printer, I have had it for 3-4 years and use it at a weekend school. I have printed about 60,0000 copies on it. Here is how to fix the 3 most common issues.Have you noticed how the last page you get before you get the "Toner Life Ended" message is is perfectly clean and doesn't seem to be lacking any toner? Because the cartridge is not really empty! Here is a trick to make your cartridge print at least 1000 more copies..Basically if light can pass through the 2 circular optical lenses on opposite sides of the cartridge due to less toner inside, the cartridge is jammed and you get the "Toner Life Ended" message. When it happens, simply take the cartridge out, get some White Out, and paint the 2 circular optical lenses on opposite side of the cartridge.Put it back in, print until it really runs out. If you are worried this will damage your cartridge, do not.. The printer had already indicated the cartridge was empty, so you have nothing to lose.Paint the optical sensors, block the light, cartridge works! When you get the Drum Life Ended message:a. open the front coverb. press the clear/back keyc. press 1 to resetd. close the front cover. You are done, it will count another 20,000 before warning you, but you may decide to replace earlier if not happy with quality of prints after some 10,000 more prints. You can also refill each cartridge twice for about $10 each, just buy toner on eBay, for 7000 more copies. 19 of 21 people found the following review helpful. Brother DCP8065DN By Skullduggery This is an outstanding product. It does it all. Copies, scans, and prints. It will print and copy doubled-sided documents. It will also scan double-sided documents through the document feeder as well.I'm really impressed by the scanning software as it allows me to save my documents in a number of formats (Photoshop, jpg, bmp, and other files types, including PDF).One thing that is very slightly misleading is the number of copies/prints you can get from a toner cartridge. When you see 3,500 (or 7,000 for the high-yield), that is only if you are using the toner saver mode (meaning you're printing in either 300 or 600 dpi). The toner saver mode is a nice option, but the copies/prints tend to be light and not as easy to read. So if you are not using the toner saver mode, you can expect the number of copies/prints from a cartridge to be significantly less (I think I got somewhere between 1,500 and 2,000 out of my standard yield cartridge). However, since there are numerous places to buy cartridges for discounted prices online, it isn't that big of a deal to be getting a lower number. For instance, you can get a high-yield cartridge for about $45 and that will give anywhere from 3,500 to 4,000 copies/prints in the non-toner saver mode.I definitely recommend this product. It is great for a small office (or even as a personal printer if you have a need for printing/copying double sided documents and will do a fair number of impressions [500 at minimum] per month). 8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Pretty good, but the paper curl is a problem By Steven Chen As a public high school teacher, making copies at school takes a long time--the waiting lines and the non-collating abilities of the school's old machines were problematic. I bought this multifunction machine to function strictly as a copier for my house. After wasting hours of time photocopying and collating multi-page short stories and assignments, I thought that this machine would be money well spent considering the time I would save. The copying functions are stellar--it is relatively fast and the high-yield toner is set at a reasonable price. Because I live in a house with 5 other teachers, the expenses surrounding the machine are relatively low. However, the printer has a propensity to curl

Wheeler I have been a HP fan for many years but started looking at other manufacturers due to slow tech. support and high cost of consumables. HL-1850 has fit the bill. Half the cost per sheet compared to my HP. Output is clean and crisp. Built in duplexing. Quick and Quiet! And so far, no jams or problems of any kind. My views my change after wear and tear take their toll, but for now this is the printer of my dreams. 8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Oh Brother, where art thou, oh there you are... hi. By Doug the IT Director Fantastic This printer is outstanding, and coming in at the exact same cost as the HL-1650 I had priced and planned to buy, it was an easy decision on my part. It prints fast, crisp, and has loads of features to tweak your ink usage. Not to mention it's direct feeder for items you don't want bent up like photopaper, and the multipurpose tray works great for letterheads, though I THOUGHT the MP tray was going to be an internal tray it's still nice. The reprint and cancel job buttons at the top of the printer also help to save time and end user head-aches, as the office personnel this printer was assigned to often got frustrated if they needed to open up the print que to cancel a print job.If you're currently using an inkjet in any capacity make the switch NOW, this thing pays for it's self in a matter of months. I've yet to need another toner, but I'm sure the factory supplied one won't last as long as the others. I'll try and post an update to toner life when the time comes. 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. But then HP had a recall due to potential fire hazard, and offered a rebate on several of their faxes and multifunction fax/printer/scanners.So I went for the M1391F MFP. I don't really care about printing - I've got a color duplex laser printer for that. I wanted something that would fax, copy, and scan with an auto-feed.Here's what it's good at:1. Scanning letter-size pages (although their Mac software could use some work).2. Copying letter-size pages.3. Faxing letter-size pages to U.S. recipients. And the document feed works great. Here's what it won't do:1. Scan legal-sized pages2. Ring or make any kind of noise when it gets an incoming call, from a fax machine, cell phone, or land line. Even with all the volume settings turned to high.3. Receive an incoming fax or phone call. At all. From anywhere. The capper tonight was that I had to fax a time-sensitive document to New Zealand, and this piece of work thinks the NZ dial tone is a busy signal and won't connect.I tried to access HP's live chat help desk, but nobody picked up in over a half-hour. So now I'm having an extended, hours-between-installments email correspondence with Nigel from Bangalore, and he's asking me to verify the model number and what version of Windows is on the attached computer and am I using USB. Well, there is no computer attached, Nigel, I'm using this as a detached fax machine. But as someone who's written printer drivers for your own company's printers, and fax software for your competitors, I can assure you that if the attached computer is preventing this unit from receiving faxes or recognizing international dial tones, you need to look for another job.I dug out the old 1010 and it sent the fax just fine. This unit has a wonderful feature set. If only it worked. It's useless to me, and I'm going to have to start looking for a fax machine that works. When I was in grad school over 20 years ago, HP sold the best lab equipment money could buy. You knew if you got an HP gas chromatograph, or infrared spectrometer, or oscilloscope, you had the highest quality available on the planet.Now... I've bought probably a dozen HP laser printers since 1990, and never even looked at another brand, with one costing over $10,000. But after this hunk of junk, I will certainly look at alternatives in the future. 11 of 11 people found the following review helpful. Positive Feedback By Joel W. Ellzey This unit was purchased as a replacement for an HP1010 Fax Machine which was recalled by the factory, and an HP1010 Printer which was not recalled. Despite negative comments by others, I have found the M1319F Printer to be more than an acceptable replacement for both machines. It is in regular use and I have had no problems thus far. It has never failed to print, copy, or fax for me. I have found the print quality to be excellent. The printed documentation that came with it was a little too spartan, but the manual on the installation CD is more than adequate (177 pages if you care to print it). As a bonus, the M1319F uses the same ink cartridge as the HP1010 Printer so for me, I only have to stock one cartridge for both. Thus far, I have no regrets with my purchase, and I believe HP did me a favor by recalling the HP1010 fax which I did not like. The only reason I rate the M1319F 4 stars is because HP makes much heavier, more durable machines, albeit at a higher price. 8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Laser Jet AOL Machine By B. Arnold The machine worked well for 3 weeks. Then it started to jam every now and then. It would try to grab too many sheets of paper from the tray. Changed paper and it happens less frequently.Last week the fax section started to act up. It dials, hears the other machine answer then takes forever to send even the first page. Oddly,

Noble It withstood shipping perfectly, and the box was a little worse for the wear, so it had seen some unnecessary roughness along the way. That notwithstanding, setup was cake. It took a while to install the drivers on my windows machine, but on the mac it was fast.I can use the entire device as a network device now, which means I don't need to leave a computer running and connected to it to print from anywhere in the house. Prints fast, faxes fine, copies fine, scans fine. It does all I expected it to do easily. so far. ;-)I expect to be stung a bit when I replace the toner cartridges, but I came into this with my eyes open. Toner per page will cost loads less than ink per page.Overall I'm very happy! 15 of 19 people found the following review helpful. Avoid at all costs By D. Wilson I have had the same problems as the other negative reviewer, with even more problems for a printer that is only about a year old. In addition, when I try to print legal sheets, it invariably jams up after 1 sheer. Talked to HP several times and it was always "you must be doing something wrong." I do know how to put paper in a printer. So I bought another printer to just print legal and continued to use the printer for letter sized printing and a lot of scanning. Then I installed Windows 7, and voila, no drivers for the printer. Printing regular b & w text moves along at about 1 page per minute, with a lot of delay in between pages. Also, the scanner does not work - no Windows 7 driver. Due to a prior software problem where a "fix" was promised for three years and never came, I have little faith in getting the drivers anytime soon. If you like big useless paper weights, you might like it. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Bad printer bad customer service By Mohammad Samimi After not more than a year and very low print volume, spent $300 in new cartridges. The 1st color print was full of color shadows. Calibrated many times and they did not go away. HP web site was no help. Contacted HP live chat, and they wanted to charge for giving me any answers. The local authorized repair they suggested only provides help to businesses. Avoid this product. Not worth the paper it prints on. See all 8 customer reviews...
