Barrett I almost never write a review, but the forest of multi-functions is so thick and I am so impressed by my Brother DCP-7020 that I figure I ought to share my personal view of this tremendous small office/home-office machine.I spent weeks researching and testing multi-functions, going back and forth among Brother, HP, Sharp, Xerox, Canon, and others. What a nightmare, sorting out and comparing all the rival features! My own needs were straight-forward: truly excellent, professional-looking B&W laser printing and copying capability; reliable paper-path routing with few or no jams; able to handle periodic high volume and otherwise steady daily use; large paper tray capacity; reliable Auto Document Feeder; handy and roomy output tray; acceptable color as well as B&W scanning; and reasonably priced laser supplies that have a reasonably high volume capacity. While I had no need for fax or networking, I might have taken either or both if the quality of the more important features I sought warranted the extra price. I also was hoping for a stand-alone copying capability, just to give me more flexibility in office machinery since I also have a Brother HL-5150DLT (which is a tremendous stand-alone printer, by the way!)Several times I almost decided on the Sharp AL-1641CS or its equivalent at Canon and Xerox. My initial misgivings about the latest Brother multifunction machines came down to three things: I was concerned about a few reports of modest paper curling; I was nervous about the paper output slot which seemed at first glance kind of puny and inconveniently located at the inside front, rather than outside to the side, of the machine; and the Brother multi-function machines somehow didn't look to me quite as robust or strong as some of their competitors, at least as they sat on the store shelf.Repeated testing in multiple stores convinced me that the Brother DCP-7020 was the most likely to meet my needs at an initial price (and also a lower laser cartridge supplies price) so substantially less than the Sharp or equivalents that I decided to 'chance' it, as I thought. It turned out far, far better than I had hoped. This is a GREAT workhorse machine that takes up substantially less work space and yet turns out excellent laser printing and/or copying with sharp, professional-looking text. Reliable, smooth paper handling with no paper jams to speak of (other than one deliberately caused for testing, which was very easily cleared). Superior copying capability (stand-alone or attached to a computer.) And, though not my top priority, very good scanning as well, supported by excellent, intuitive software. The earlier review and product descriptions you can read at Amazon.com are accurate. This machine is awesome; the best buy for the money you will find, unless you need faxing capability or color printing in your multi-function. As for my original misgivings, here's my experience:(1) Paper curling. Not a problem! The paper curling reports are true but greatly exaggerated. Very, very minor curling occurs (probably due to the extreme heat needed for any laser printing), but the paper flattens quickly as it cools and in a minute or so you won't even know it had a slight curl as it emerged from the machine.(2) Output tray. Not a problem! True, the output slot at the front of the machine looks a little inconvenient or insubstantial, but that turns out to be a mirage, probably because we are so accustomed to expecting to see a bulky exterior separate output tray. The Brother DCP-7020 output tray actually is an innovation. It works perfectly and can hold up to 100 pages, no problem. Lift the lid below the copier and you will see you have access to the entire output tray in all its glory.(3) The wrong-est I was in my initial misgivings was in thinking that visually the Brother DCP-7020 looked somehow more fragile, or less robust, than

Be more informed The new international ISO print speed standard Print speed is critically important when buying a printer or all-in-one. But how do you compare print speeds when different manufacturers measure in different ways? Now you can. Much like the "MPG" ratings on new cars, there's now a new industry standard for measuring print speed, which allows for an "apples-to-apples" comparison between different printer models and brands. The International Organization for Standardization (widely known as ISO) developed this industry approved and internationally accepted standard, specifically for ink jet printers and all-in-ones. It measures "out of the box" (default) print speeds using "real world" printing scenarios, so you can be sure you're getting a product that performs at the speed you need. Morgan I bought this all-in-one because my other printer is not a copy-capable printer and we need that capability. I did some research and finally decided on the Epson NX515 after reading several reviews. So far I have been very pleased with it. I have a couple of small gripes but nothing that cannot be overlooked. The NX515 is actually a relatively small printer, taking up a little less space than any of my previous printers. It is also lightweight and easy to move should there be a need.Setting up the NX515 is simple. There is a quick-start guide that explains the process of configuration and it makes the set-up almost foolproof. From the time I opened the box to the time I had a working printer that was producing output was less than 15 minutes, and there were no confusing or difficult steps in the process. The only negative about the setup is that Epson, like almost every other printer vendor, does NOT include a USB cable in the box. The cost of a USB cable is actually only a couple of dollars (they're a high-profit item) so including one would not break the bank. If you do no have a spare USB cable available and you wish to direct-connect this printer, be sure to pick one up before trying to set up.Once configured, the NX515 is a very capable printer. It has the fastest print speeds I have ever seen in an inkjet, printing faster in standard mode than I have seen most printers print in draft mode (for standard text - does not apply to photo printing). The quality does not suffer either and is excellent. I was pleased to see than this printer does not produce the banding I have seen in Epson printers' output in the past. The control panel for setting up copying is very easy to read and very easy to navigate. It is very simple to change copy parameters and the instructions in the panel are straightforward.I have not used the scanning capabilities of the NX515.One feature I wish was available, even if it required buying an attachment, is automatic duplex printing. My other printer handles duplex printing with ease and requires no intervention at all. The NX515 does duplex printing but it requires manual intervention. This is a minor inconvenience, not a deal-breaker.Epson has produced a very nice all-in-one in the NX515. The setup is simple and the print speeds are absolutely stunning. It is by no means a perfect device but it is an excellent product at an excellent price (approximately $110 at the moment). If you need a printer that can handle scanning and copying while producing beautiful prints, give this printer a close look. 57 of 60 people found the following review helpful. Never another Espon printer in my home. By R. Greg Hughes After four Epson printers in my home, I will never buy another one. I purchased the NX515 Model a few months after purchasing an Artisan 800 (A-800). The NX515 was for my daughter to take to college. I was pleased in the first few months with the A-800 and therefore thought the next level down Epson Printer would be ideal for college life.Well, not so. First the issues with the A-800 that began the whole disappointment with Epson. I purchased the A-800 because of its multifunction capabilities (scan, copy, fax, print) with good photo quality prints. I also purchased it because replacing ink was touted to be cheaper as I would only have to purchase the color ink cartridge that was out and the Epson replacement ink cartridges where priced on average approximately 25% less than comparable replacement ink cartridges for a similar HP printer. As it turns out the functionality with the machine worked great an the quality of prints was excellent. However the machine burned ink at a much faster pace than anything I had ever experienced with similar HP machines. In order to maintain the good quality prints, the Epson printer frequently required you to run a maintenance

Every article says there is nothing like an inkjet. I can tell you for a fact that they are wrong!! There is no comparison at all when printed on plain paper; this HP LaserJet 3550 is the best!! When printed on gloss paper a great inkjet is better but not by much at all. Meaning you will not need an inkjet unless you already have one. I read all the articles on all brands (OKI, Samsung, HP, Lexmark, Brother, Ricoh, Minolta, Panasonic, etc...) (trust me I spent 2+ weeks reading) of laser printers. I sent (and paid) for samples only to find out that the HP LaserJet printers (3500, 3550, 3700) produce the best output (B&W, color, and photo) and they only have 600*600 res., which goes to show you resolution means nothing (at least with HP)!!This HP 3550 printer is fast and produced the best photos I have seen on any laser printer (no banding also!). Power consumption is low, it is Quiet for a laser, and of course it is bigger than an inkjet or a cheap (slow) color laser (that is why it is FAST) (they do sell cheaper, smaller, slower models). Trust me it is not that big in size (at least for what it does). HP does not put in half toner cartridges like others (Minolta, etc...). The only thing it could have is a duplex option, but it does a great job a manual duplex. I just can not say anything bad, I was very hesitant about buying a color laser but am very happy with this and am glad I did not go with any of the other brands (especially after getting in my samples of other printers) you will not regret this purchase!!!!! I have the LaserJet 3550n. 27 of 28 people found the following review helpful. A whole lot of printer By Island Girl I have the HP Color Laserjet 3550. Straight off the bat let me state that this printer is big. When I say big, I mean big. When it was delivered I was astonished at the size of the box and after unpacking it I spend a few minutes taking in its size. I then realized that it was taller than I anticipated, even though the dimensions quoted in my prepurchase research were accurate. Seeing is believing. Despite the size, it is well designed and infact, beautifully made.Setup of the printer and toners was extremely easy, and the installation of drivers was okay. After following the instructions given in the setup guide, the installation process stopped on my PC for no apparent reason. I eventually restarted the pc with the setup cd in the machine AND the printer connected to the pc and everything sorted itself out perfectly. When I did my first print (the printer's demo page) and saw the quality on plain copy paper, I knew that I had made the right decision on purchasing the HP LaserJet 3550. So far, I am extremely pleased with this printer. I run a home-based desktop publishing business, and this printer has handled everything I have thrown at it without problems - business cards, labels, flyers, invoices, etc. As DonF said in his review, you will not regret this purchase!!!!! 14 of 14 people found the following review helpful. HP Laserjet 3550 a GREAT color laser printer By A Conrad I was pleasantly surprised with this color laserjet. I previously had the HP 4550, which was (is) the most disappointing color laser printers (at 4ppm and outrageously expensive ink drum). I was a little skeptical about the capabilities of the 3550, but with a little research online and testing at local computer stores, I decided to go with the 3500 (actually, I got the 3550n with networking). It did not come with a network card (like the 4550), but it did come with a USB network print server (which I like better anyway). It boasts 16ppm for color (which is faster than my old one), but only 16ppm for b&w text (which is slow compared to my HPLJ 2420 at 25ppm). Others boast a fast 25ppm color and b&w text (Lexmark C762) but for twice the price. The comparable

It seems to have Lexmark's robust design and construction, though I won't be able to say for certain without a few more years of use. The directions from the front panel during setup, faxing, etc., are useful. As with many networkable printers, it has a web server built-in, from which one can change major setting without any special client software. This is nice, and makes the printer in some regards 'future proof,' in that you don't need Lexmark to continue to create updated versions of the driving software in order to use the device with new and potentially incompatible OS revisions. It does, however, have quirks. If the printer is waking from sleep, the time to first print is longer than I am used to. In an environment where the printer is used only occasionally, this may be a problem. Also, it has basically no Mac OS X software. For scanning, you have to use Apple's Image Capture program, which as of the current release does not work with multi-page scans on this printer. Finally, though you can connect it to your network via ethernet, on the Mac at least you will need to hook up a USB cable too in order to use the scanner. 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Overall very nice printer/fax/scanner By Ron G. Robertson This printer was surprisingly small in size to be a color laser MFP. It replaces an HP2840 that died (falsely claiming a jam that couldn't be cleared, even by a printer repair place). I researched MFP devices from Samsung, Canon, Epson, HP, looking for one that was Mac Snow Leopard compatible, had duplex printing capability, color laser printing, and good printing speed. This had all of those features at a price that matched or beat its competition, on a printer that can print more than 20 ppm, both color and B&W, all the others had less than 20 ppm printing speed. I just received the printer today and am pleased with its printing speed and quietness of operation. The HP2840 was a very noisy machine, slow to start up, poor Snow Leopard support (only print, no fax or scan). If you're using it as a network printer, the only way to scan is via the web interface, but if you hook it up via USB, then you can scan more directly from the computer. I think that's a bit clunky, and Lexmark should make a more sensible driver for it, but at least you can scan/print/fax from the network in Snow Leopard.Overall, it seems to be a very nice device, and I think I made the best choice. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Easy set up, great quality By hawkeyejan When I first unpacked this printer, I was a bit overwhelmed at the thought of setting it up. It turned out that the instructions were easy to follow and we were in business the first time. There is a known glitch with print quality that occurs during shipping. When setting up for the first time it is important to remove the cartridges and the waste container and clean the lenses with a lint free cloth. If you don't do this there will be lines and spaces in the printouts. I had to call customer service which took a while. There is also some documentation on their customer service website. Printing, scanning, copying and faxing are all easy and produce good quality results. See all 6 customer reviews...

Great Printer - If you set it up right By Chet I recently purchased this printer from another retailer after doing quite a bit of research into colors laser printers. I purchased this printer due to the reviews, and because it was network-ready. After setting up the printer, I had a small problem. The first print after powering on the printer would smudge and the toner would smear. It was as if the fuser wasn't hot enough to set the toner to the paper. I tried several different paper types, but the first print would always come out with bad results. After the first print, it was better, but still not perfect. Not satisfied with the results, I set out to find the cause. I found the answer in a review of a different Konica Minolta printer here on Amazon. Read this carefully: The printer ships with 2 green switches in the "envelope" position. Unless you flip these two switches to the "paper" position you will get smearing and smudges. It is not readily apparent from the pictures-only instructions that are included with the printer that these should be flipped. They are green, and located on the left and right sides of the printer when you open the top cover near where the paper comes out. There is a picture of an envelope on the switch, but you cannot see it until after you've flipped it. Make absolutely sure you flip these or you will have problems. These switches control how tightly the paper is pushed against the fuser to set the toner. After flipping the switches, I am very happy with the results from the printer. The colors are vibrant and the text is razor sharp. I added some extra memory to the printer because I had an old 128MB DIMM laying around. Beware if you want to put more memory in the printer: you must have single-sided DIMMS (chips on one side of the module only). If you have a double-sided DIMM it will only recognize half the memory on the module. I didn't notice a difference after installing the extra memory since I had no problems printing large images at the highest quality anyway. The standard warnings apply as with all laser printers. The unit ships with "starter" toner cartriges that are not full. When you repalce them, it will cost you quite a bit of money. Nothing unique to this printer, but still annoying. I believe the ones that ship with the printer will get you around 1500 pages. Also, it does not print photo-quality images, but no color laser will. Know what you're buying. I highly recommend this printer for home use. It produces fast, high-quality images, razor-sharp text, it's network-ready, and has Linux drivers (not Postscript). 31 of 31 people found the following review helpful. Absolutely incredible!!! WOW!!! I cannot BELIEVE the high quality!!! By Christine Holzmann Okay...so I know I sound over ecstatic about this printer but, quite simply, that is because I really am!! For starters, I am a graphics professional and a REALLY finnicky, ultra picky person who also suffers from being too much of a perfectionist. Whenever I get something new that plays a somewhat critical part to what I do, I am EXTREMELY critical of it from the very beginning and look for the flaws from the word go. Once a few days/couple of weeks have passed and it has "passed" than I will keep it. The quality of the final output is very important to me, doing what I do. And I bet you are already asking yourself the question, "Well, if it is THAT critical, why not be prepared to spend a lot more if you really want quality so that you can get what you pay for? How can you expect such a low priced product to meet your high expectations?" Well, truth of the matter is that I am in the process of getting a house, so ANYTHING costs a LOT right now to me (money flies in all directions when you move into a new home...you know how it is) and so I was actually going to wait another year or so until I was able to spend a lot more on a really decent color

Most helpful customer reviews 8 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Great Multi-Purpose Laser Printer By A Customer I needed to print some color materials... high quality... went to the local copy shop and the per page cost (2 sided) was over $2.50. Knowing I needed to print a thousand copies, I decided to look for printers! This printer does an excellent job for everyday printing, business graphics, and photographs. The consumables are about $0.15/page (Xerox says $0.08/page based on 7% coverage). The management tools bult in are top notch, and the power management keeps the machine ready without consuming too much power. The LAN connection makes it a perfect addition to our wireless household network. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Not reliable at all By Unhappy I've owned this printer for 4 months now and it's broken down twice. The first time when the fuser broke down Xerox provided excellent service and talked me into purchasing the extended warrantee. Now the imaging unit is malfunctioning when it's only 1/2 used up, and it is impossible to get a new one anywhere, under warrantee or not, as they are backordered from the manufacturer until mid January. So I'm stuck with pink dots all up and down the side of every page I print until then. This is ridiculous with an expensive machine like this not to be able to obtain a basic consumable part for months. When it's working this printer does produce nice quality, but it's a pain because every time you want to change to a different paper type or size you have to push buttons on the panel on the printer as well as selecting your choices in the driver. Also the duplexer does not work out of Photoshop, which is what I do all my printing out of. If I had this to do over again I'd go with an HP instead - my old HP color laser which cost 1/4 of what this thing did is much more reliable. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. If I had to eat a turd, I guess I'd choose the one that stinks the least. By PenName I support two Phaser 6250s, networked, in use by 75 users. I've amazingly never really had a problem with either of them. With all the advances in computers, graphics, software, and hardware... why can't anyone make a printer that works, is easy to use, and won't need every part replaced after a year? And could someone please explain why EVERY printer requires it's own type of toner? Is the 6350 really that much different than the 6250? Why can't I just buy another reliable 6250 instead of chancing a 6350 and having to buy different toner? My belief is that printer technology has not changed in over 20 years, the market is moved by who can create a new toner cartridge that won't fit in anyone else's printer. Most helpful customer reviews 6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Useless duplex By James N. Record I purchased a K5400dtn to be able to print two-sided over my network. I was never able to get the printer to reliably print two-sided. Most attempts jammed after printing the first side of a sheet. I spent over 2 hours on the HP support chat with no help. I returned the printer. This is the second networked HP printer (different models) that I have attempted to get working in the last 3 months. In the past I have always used HP printers; not ever again. 6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. HP K5400DTN By JN I use this printer mainly for printing envelopes, but also have used the duplexing letters for large mailings. It can handle about 30 envelopes at a time, and prints the 30 in about 1minute in draft mode which typically looks just fine. I have only had my printer for about 1 month and have done about 3000 envelopes. The XL ink cartridges seem to last forever. The duplexer is great and the extra paper tray is a plus. I have another K5400 without the duplexer extra tray, and both of these printers are work horses. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Think Twice By Daniel The product assembles well. Then problems then start. Despite carefully doing everything according to instructions, the printer would barely put ink on paper. Within 23 printed pages, the yellow ink cartridge light indicated it was out of ink, despite being brand new. Soon no ink, even pure black and white MS Word documents would not print despite what sounded like the print heads working fine. I called HP and spend 45 minutes on the phone with a tech. He was a Windows tech and could not help with a Mac running OS 10.4.10, but graciously tried. I wish he didn't. All he could do is read from HP's web site (badly) and do the obvious print head cleaning, re-seating of the cartridges, and the like. To no avail. He did offer to send me a free yellow cartridge...but he didn't seem to understand that even B&W would not print I bought HP precisely since I wanted to avoid quality problems. Ooops I advise you to wait until they refine this printer model and get the kinks out See all 10 customer reviews...

Most helpful customer reviews 43 of 46 people found the following review helpful. A Happy Purchase By Peter Cuthbert [...] Installation: (Easy) The first thing you should do is insert the installation CD. It will provide very good (explicit) installation instructions. Use the active guide. You can slide the bar back and forth to help you follow the instructions. What I did was to follow the active instruction to the end then I would slide the bar where I felt I needed more precise help. This system works very well because unless you move forward arrow, you control what you need to review. [...] Print Quality: Excellent! Scanning: You can tell the difference between the original and the copy. I would guess that there is about a 10 percent (or less) loss in clarity. My other HP scanner/ printers have been very close to original quality. That may not be important to you. Possible Problem: This machine is a well constructed, professional quality machine. It is bulky and heavy for the average person. Unless you are physically active, more than six feet tall with long arms, don't try to handle this 60 plus pound item by your self. Get a friend to help. Put the printer on a very stabile table (preferably a heavy duty printer stand). A card table is not strong enough. [...] Possible Installation Problem: When installing the Imaging Drum, be careful that you line the drum up with the slots provided in the machine. The drum will slide down the slots easily to the bottom. Once at the bottom, press firmly down. It will click once it is in place. The instructions will not tell you to do this. Try to bring down the front cover. If the front cover will not come down and fit flush with the printer body, you have not seated the Imagine Drum correctly. Paper Placement: The CD describes the HP 2840 which has two paper supply areas. Not even the written instructions tell you about the main tray. It is not a tray at all. On the face of the printer below the "HP" logo, is a finger slot, pull outward. That is your paper tray. At the front edge, pull out the tray extension. Then there is another extension by rotating a panel on top of the tray outward to provide full length paper support. In fact, the support extends about 3/4" beyond the paper. Would I purchase this machine? I'm pleased with the machine. It is a typical HP quality machine. I haven't tried it's other features. For my purposes, it is fine. I don't see any need for the HP2840. If you are working with two different qualities of paper, then perhaps the HP2840 is the machine you need. PROBLEM: Don't look for a manual. HP has included the manual in it's program, according to them. Ask Tech support to direct you to the manual. I haven't found it yet. If they have taken the trouble to provide it on a CD, the could have printed it. This is one area which makes me unhappy. This is an outstanding color printer. I have used it for more than six months. I'm very happy with it. 3-18-07 PC 17 of 17 people found the following review helpful. Nice...but... By H. Hegedus Ok, for the price, this can't be beat for a small office. However, some caveats. First, it is pretty noisy, not "I can't hear myself think" kind of noisy, but if it sits next to someone all day and gets heavily used, they will find it annoying. Second, our printers power supply shut down a week ago (about 4-5 weeks after we purchased it) and we are hoping to see a technician with a replacement part today. So we have been without the use of this printer for a week. Luckily we had a couple little inkjets scattered throughout the office that allowed us to get by. Finally, be careful when you order, because this item did not include the 250 sheet paper tray. I caught this just as I was about to order and added the paper tray for another $100 or so. Pretty stupid to sell it without it (considering that it is intended for an office environment), but that is how it is marketed. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. NOT a good

NOT a good

I use this printer for printing customer proofs (I'm a part-time professional photographer), and the colors are more accurate than photo-quality ink-jet prints (although ink-jet prints are generally more pleasing to the eye). 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. What a Great Printer - A Workhorse By Rick S. I've had this printer for about a year now and it has been amazing. I work on private placements frequently and sometimes need to be able to print 100+ page documents at all hours of the day and night. This printer can crank them out amazingly fast, with great print quality and duplex printing to save paper. (I formerly used an old laser Multi-function device that printed at about 25% the speed, with no color, duplex or network connectivity - uggh!) While I do not use the printer for extensive photo printing or other home/entertainment purposes, the color printing is excellent for business purposes - reports, proposals, etc. The internal print server did burn out about 6 months after I bought it. HP Service was great - sent me a new part ASAP and I was up and running right away - very much unlike some of the customer support experiences I have had with other consumer electronic device manufacturers (Philips/TiVo). (The issue manifested itself by the printer "disappearing" from my available printers, needing to be reinstalled from time-to-time. I finally figured out what was going on after calling HP support when it happened a couple of times. All is fine now.) 7 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Winsor I bought one of these a couple months ago and I am completely amazed at the quality and speed of the prints. They look highly professional on any white paper and even some "card" like stock (have not tried transparencies). The print speed is much faster than laser and so far the print server and all prints have been flawless. We print several hundred pages per month, and I have owned several various models of HP printers, none of which have printed so many pages without some sort of jam or need to reset the print server. I absolutely love the solid ink. It involves so little packaging, its almost sickening to think about all the waste of laser or even inkjet! Yes, this printer is better to be left on. It sits and makes no noise whatsoever in standby (can't say that about laser), and when I am about to print I just touch any button on the front panel to get it out of standby so that by the time I send the document to the printer, its all ready to go. This may not be the best printer for the casual user, but for those that don't mind leaving a printer turned on all the time, this is by far the best printer I have seen. The duplex printing is fantastic also. Note that you may want to place this somewhere such that there is nothing above the printer for at least a foot or so. The top lifts up to load ink, and it is somewhat heavy - you don't want to have to move it or unplug it to load the ink, so keep that in mind. The price was hard to digest initially but seems like a real bargain to me now. 22 of 22 people found the following review helpful. Awesome, quiet, fast color! By Jonathan D. Schmidt This printer is simply AWESOME! I have been using OkiData color laser printers for several years. I finally got tired to spending a fortune on image drums and pricey toner cartridges. I heard about the solid ink color capabilities of the Xerox Phaser and did a bunch of research before buying. In short, this printer is amazing. Color - First of all, the color reproduction of the printer is stellar. The color matching does an incredible job right out of the box. Using PHOTO mode creates rich, vibrant color on plain paper. Of course, this uses more ink, but that's okay. I have the printer set on STANDARD mode for everyday use. I'll only use ENHANCED or PHOTO mode when doing more important jobs. Speed - This printer is MUCH faster than the OKI C6100 that I had previously. I leave this printer on all the time with a timeout setting of 240 minutes. It starts right up and spits out the page in about 7-9 seconds. I do mean SPIT. This printer almost literally shoots the paper out the tray. It's so fast that it is startling at first. Noise - For anyone worried about noise, don't be. I can't hear the printer at all in a 20x16 office with 3 other computers. That either means that it is silent or my other computers are louder (and they are very quiet as well). When it is printing, there is no loud fan running or the print engine running. It is very quiet. If people think this printer is loud, they haven't really heard a loud printer before. It is near SILENT compared to my OKI. I am a photo and computer enthusiast and have spent thousands of dollars on equipment. This is by far the best color (non-inkjet) printer I have used to date. I look forward to saving money compared to my OKI! 18 of 18 people found the following review helpful. Great Even For Occasional Usage... By Kreig Zimmerman I bought this because I wanted good-quality color prints. Color lasers print photos poorly, and I use a printer at home too infrequently to justify an inkjet as ink would dry out between uses. This works beautifully. However, EXPENSIVE ink refills. But so are color lasers' toner cartridges. Nonetheless, SUPER-FAST. And GORGEOUS output. One note: if you print infrequently as well, make sure to set the printer to only

By Anjana Nigam This is a great printer. It's easy to set up and easy to use. I have the previous model the Workforce 600 and I thought this would be a better version. However, it is not better. In fact, it is slower than the previous version for laser quality prints. For draft quality it still does 38 ppm but for laser quality it does 15 vs. 27 ppm of the 600 model. And for color it does only 9.3 vs 15! Although, I don't need the speed at home, I can't imagine why Epson would slow it down. The printing quality seems just the same. I went over spec sheets of 600 and 610 with a tooth comb and the only difference I found was the slower speed and the fact that 610 can be recycled and uses slightly less power on standby mode (2.9 W on 610 vs. 5.5 W on 600). Since Energy Star specs change from year to year this update could have been just to conform to those specs. The set up of this printer is very easy. You can do it through your computer or directly from the printer LCD screen by typing in your router password. I tried both ways and it worked. It prints from my Windows 7 and XP laptops and Mac desktop in different parts of the house. It took about 30 minutes in all from opening the package to printing out the test sheet over wireless, mostly because the packaging tape took some time to get through. The convenience of being able to print or fax remotely from anywhere in my house is a big asset and the prints look great - both normal paper printing and photos. The advantages of this printer: ++ Wireless printing. What a joy. It's the best thing ever. No more running to the printer with a laptop, or buying a separate printer for the desktop. The whole family can use just one. It saves me so much time, and it's so convenient as you can print (or fax from PC) from anywhere in the house - upstairs or from downstairs. ++ The top auto document feeder makes it really easy to photocopy or scan your standard sized documents. I can just start and walk away. It can hold 30 sheets at a time. ++ The feature I love is that you can scan all your important papers to PDF or JPG files on a memory card inserted into the printer card-slot. It takes pretty much any card from CF to SDHC etc. The card shows up as a drive (X or Y, or whatever you designate) in your Windows explorer. I open my mail, drop my bills in the auto feeder and select scan to memory card (choosing PDF option) and walk away. The printer does the rest. Later, I access the card from my laptop wirelessly and copy over the docs to my hard drive folders. This is really great as all my filing is now paperless and I can save all important documents in PDF from school schedules to tax documents. ++ The color LCD screen on the front panel with the buttons on the side makes it easy to change settings or scan/copy/print photos etc right from the printer. To print photos you can print wirelessly from PC, or attach your camera with USB or insert the memory card into the printer. ++ It comes with 4 full sized ink tanks - 3 high capacity primary colors and one extra high capacity (#97) black ink tank. The ink levels show up on your computer each time you print and indicate when you need to change the tank. They can be changed individually so you can replace them as needed which saves ink. ++ The ink dries very quickly and the prints are smudge free. This printer also printed really good photos using premium glossy paper. ++ You can hardwire this printer through ethernet or connect your laptop with USB cable if you don't want to use the WiFi option. What could have been better: -- Why oh why did Epson slow down the speed of this printer? The prints are great but it's a mystery why they chose to go slower than the previous version. If you don't print too much this may be not a problem for you. It's still faster than several other
