Disappointing toner capacity By Paul I calculated toner consumption based on the price of their high-capacity toner, which they claim is rated for 9,000 pages. Don't believe it. The "low toner" indicator comes on at around 5,000 pages, and the printed pages look fairly washed out by then. By 7,000 pages, the printed pages look too washed out to even read anymore, even with lots of toner shaking. This is with copying and printing text documents, many of which do not take up the full 8.5x11 area (e.g. photocopies of driver's licenses). There are a few other minor problems. The network drivers consume a lot of resources and are a bit squirrely. The document feeder frequently pulls through multiple pages at a time and is difficult to unjam. Mostly, though, the main problem is toner capacity. Based on the claimed toner capacity, I calculated that this printer would have very low per-page costs compared to other printers. In practice it's not nearly as economical as I thought it would be. 8 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Great Printer from Lexmark By J. Dodds This is a great machine for the money. Warm-up speed is quick and when it begins printing, it prints fast and quite. This machine is great for a home or office environment. The scan to email function is superior to all of the other multi-function machines I've owned. The scanning software minimizes the number of trips you need to make to the machine, so if the printer is in another room, you don't have to run back and forth a bunch of times. The duplexer in the printer works flawlessly. What else can I say, it's quiet, reasonably priced, fast, and has great print quality. I did run in to a significant installation problem during setup. I set this machine up on 5 different computers. Everything appeared to go fine during the install, but after I shut down 2 of the computers at the end of the day and started them up the next morning, Lexmark's scanning software completely locked up 2 of them and would not let the operating system boot up. Since I didn't need scanning capability on these two machines, I ended up starting them in safe mode, removing the scanning software, and everything worked fine after that. I never called Lexmark's technical support to see if they had a fix for the problem. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Most helpful customer reviews 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. before you buy a brother By C. Badgett I have owned the MFC-9420CN, but you might want to read this before purchasing any Brother printer. I have had this machine for about a year it cost over $1,000 and is suppose to be for business. This machine is in my home and I do use it more than probably most homes, but not nearly the amount a buisiness would use. After I print about 100-200 copies the machine overheats and needs to take a very long break, sometimes overnight. Make sure you read the entire manual. You need to know how heavy of paper you can use. It won't even take standard coverstock 67lbs. It will only take up to 55 lbs. This machine jams all the time, both at the paperfeeder on top as well as the papertray on the bottom. I have made many calls to Brother. I do get to speak to a live person; however, they are not all trained very well. One problem took them a week to fix, many many phone calls and a guy coming to my home twice. I will give them credit for taking care of the problem and not charging me anything. My most recent problem was with a toner cartridge of theirs. Read the fine print, they only guarantee their cartridge for 90 days with a receipt. So, now I'm out $100, yes, that is how much their cartidges costs. Think twice before purchasing any printer, read the fine print and do a lot of research. See all 1 customer reviews...

Pretty good so far By Michael I was a bit nervous about buying this printer because there were no reviews yet on Amazon and my wife has had all kinds of software problems with an HP Photosmart printer that she bought last year (against the advice of dozens of Amazon reviewers). But after looking around a bit, I decided that the HP LJ3050 looked like the best all-in-one laser machine for the money. And I really loved my previous all-in-one, the HP LJ3100, which had served me well for 8 years. I just received the product and installed it today, and the installation went smoothly (although it did take a while). The print quality is fine and the speed is an improvement over my old 3100. My only complaint about the print function so far is that the machine is kind of loud. The scan software doesn't seem quite as straightforward as the software for my 3100, but it does work just fine. I probably just need to get used to it. Copying is nice and quick. I haven't plugged the machine into a phone jack yet, so I won't comment on the fax features. The machine is not quite as solidly built as my old 3100, but it is actually a little better than I expected. I would have to say that, overall, I am pleased with this product so far. My only complaint is that the box does not include the USB cable needed to connect the machine to your PC. I had to make a special trip out to the store to buy one, and it cost over $20. I went back and checked the outside of the box and could not find anything that clearly said "USB cable not included", so I feel like I have a right to be angry about it. 30 of 31 people found the following review helpful. DO NOT BUY By D. Toro Faxes are received as bar codes. HP knows a problem exist with the formatter board but it took 4 calls to customer support for the problem to be acknowledged. To fix this under warranty HP wants to charge $50 for a refurbished copier sent overnight. I want the copier repaired at no cost at the local repair center but HP will not send the part. The part is backordered with "no estimate ship date". I can buy the part as an end user for $193. HP does not stand behind it's products. 17 of 17 people found the following review helpful. Big By Barry Holzman I bought this with the half off rebate - as a result it was very reasonable in price. I wouldn't pay full price for it though. Prior to owning this unit, I owned an Officejet V40 which I was quite satisfied with. The reason that I replaced it is that there are no decent drivers for current operating systems. I also had noticed that is was larger than current all-in-ones with similar functionality. However, it was easy to use and worked realiably for 5 years. In comes the HP 3050. While it does its job fine - I do have three negative comments. It is a monster in size! I have no idea why it is so large! It's color scanning errors on the side of being too red. Finally, its menus and functions are not as intutiive as they could be. See all 37 customer reviews...

Most helpful customer reviews 83 of 85 people found the following review helpful. Great Printer! By C. Huddleston I purchased this printer after a lot of research here on Amazon and elsewhere. This printer is replacing an old Epson Stylus Photo 780 that I've had for years. I was really unhappy with the Epson because the ink heads clogged up constantly. I also wanted the newest printer possible, since I've had problems with other devices not updating their drivers, so this printer fit the bill. The Canon printer has been wonderful for me so far. It was easy to set up and install and worked right away. I'm using Snow Leopard on a Mac, so I had to download the actual driver from Canon's web site, but this is easy to do and pretty self-explanatory. I love that the printer is all enclosed. The regular paper sits in a tray at the bottom, and everything can be closed up so that dust doesn't get into it. Photo paper is loaded at the rear. This printer has individual ink cartridges, a plus in my opinion. I am using it lightly (10-15 regular color pages, 1-2 photos per week) so I have not dented the supply level on the ink cartridges, and can't really comment on how fast the ink runs out. The print quality is pretty good for the regular paper, and very good for photos. I was very impressed with the photos that I printed, they were sharp and the color was great. The software drivers are adequate and not too confusing. I found this printer very easy to use and of good quality. I'm very happy with it, and it's miles better than my old Epson. 44 of 45 people found the following review helpful. A Change of Opinion 8 Months Later. Originally, a Beautiful High Resolution Photographics, Eats Ink, But a Great Step Up By Ethan A. Winning Aug. 2010, 8 months later: I've had to change my opinion of this printer. It still puts out the best photos I've seen from any inkjet printer, and I've had my share. The colors are true and vivid. However, to get true and vivid, you can go broke on the ink. This printer was costing me so much in ink that I no longer print a "good photo" until two to three weeks after taking it. That's just to be sure that it's as good as I initially thought, haven't taken a better shot since, and that I'm willing to use the ink. And, I've switched from 8x10 to 5x7 prints. In 8 months, I've spent over $300 on ink!!!! Second, I couldn't understand why everyone was complaining about how slow this printer was. When I first got it, I thought it was fast. Now, it's either slowed down to a snail's pace, or I'm just now paying attention. This is not my primary printer, and I wasn't really paying attention until one day I didn't use my LaserJet IV (almost 18 years old and still going strong, but B&W), and just left it set on the PIXMA, and I swear it took the better part of 5 minutes to get around to printing the photo. Then, I printed a one page black and white note. Not even the font was fancy: Times Roman, 12 pt. It took 90 seconds to get a page printed. Why the difference in perception? I warned in my initial review that you had to set the printer on "draft" when printing just a B&W document. Well, after printing a batch of photos on high quality, I forgot to reset it to draft. It's a pain in the ... neck, but the difference in speed is phenomenal. And "draft quality" is actually very good for a document, even a document that has a few color font changes. Would I recommend this printer? No. Would I buy it again? Probably, and the reason is that I just don't know what printer would have the quality of prints. Speed is not that important when it comes to my photographic endeavors. Speed is important for the handbooks and manuals that I write, and my old HP has yet to fail me. If speed and ink costs are important, DO NOT buy this printer. In a Wall Street Journal article from last year, it stated that 80% of HP's profits come from in sales. What? You thought that a $79 printer was too good to be true? Well, I've known about ink costs

Atencio I purchased this printer for my office and have not been happy with it. It is simple to set up, comes at a great price, but unfortunately something is up with the red toner alignment. I've done a couple of calibrations, remove the toner and shake trick, etc. and still I have inconsistent application of toner in the red areas. I cannot recommend this printer. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. eats toner and photoconductor much faster then spec By kkc The black toner started showing low warnings at about 2500 pages and at 2800 the toner ran out - the capacity is supposed to be 4000 pages. I had similar issues with the colour toner as well. Life expectancy for colour toner is roughly 50%. This is ridiculous. On top of this the photoconductors life is also tending towards under 50%. Basically this means that this printer will cost twice as much as you expect in real life. I contacted Lexmark and they swapped out the circuit board that controls the toners. They replaced the colour toner. I am still in discussions with them to send me a new black. They refused to send me replacement photoconductors - they stated that the life should go on for the full 20,000 pages - just that the life goes down a lot faster early on. I am not convinced - after just 2800 pages the remaining life is down to 14400 pages instead of 17200. I hope they are right though. I bought this printer because of all the environmental features. But theis experience has taught me to stick to what works.... HP, maybe Samsung next time. 6 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Worst Purchase I've Ever Made. By Mark Alan Mcmillan I owned this printer for a few weeks. I was printing brochure pages on glossy paper and the printer turned all of the white areas grey. I tried al of their customer service suggestions none of which helped. Finally, after sending print samples to Lexmark they admitted it was a known problem with the printer however only certain people noticed the "graying". They also stated that a different printer would be no better because they all of the C532DN printers had the effect and that some customers simply did not notice it. They did graciously offer to refund me my full purchase price. However it has been 6 months and I have yet to receive the refund although they have had my printer for several months and I have spent hours waiting on hold... Stay away!!!! Get anything but this printer. Based on Lexmark's customer service I suggest you stay away from Lexmark all together. See all 4 customer reviews...

Dent I am awarding this printer 5 stars for its ease of installation, quality of output, quality of workmanship, unit price and the average cost of a printed page. The Xerox Phaser 6125N appears to be a solid, quality unit. Given that you will print about 500 pages before you need to buy your next toner, you get a lot of value for the price. Thereafter, based on the prices currently listed at Amazon, paying $70 for 2000 black and white pages is not bad at all. In fact, on a per-page basis, you are paying significantly less vs. what you would spend on a generic ink-jet printer. I installed the printer at home, in the basement, plugged into a wireless Linksys router via an Ethernet wire. My printer is now taking jobs from 5 different computers, connected through the same router over Wi-Fi and running Windows XP and Vista. The unit comes in a nice, neat box where very little space is wasted. The unit is very much assembled and ready to go. There is a `Quick Installation', poster-sized guide (also a 'flash' animation on the CD) that explains in detail how to remove the various sticky tapes that held the printer together during transportation and lock in the toner cartridges. Once that's done, you plug in the power, connect the printer via either USB or Ethernet (USB and Ethernet cables NOT included), turn it on, set up your favorite language if it's not English and you are ready to go. On the computer side, you need to install the Xerox printer driver. The driver installation(*) was relatively quick and nearly flawless. For it to proceed, the setup program must first find the printer. Since the printer was not physically connected to the laptop, it immediately started to look for IP-based printers. You must make sure that the printer is turned on and it has an IP address(**) while this is happening. The status page, which you can print from the front panel, will tell you if that is the case. My DHCP-enabled Linksys router assigned an address to the printer so no complicated setup was required. On the Vista side, I had to give Vista permission for a couple of tasks to complete. The setup gives you the opportunity to register your printer online. I agreed and it was quick and easy even though I was surprised that the setup knew my printer's serial number but not the model which I have to pick it myself from a long drop-down list. From the moment I opened the box to the time I printed my first page off a document, it took less than one hour. I can see how some users may require help with the network installation part. I cannot say how Xerox supports end-users with more complex network setups because I did not have to call the tech support. The Phaser 6125N is a large, solid box (see Amazon's picture) and it is so because it holds large (fully loaded) toner cartridges and the fuser unit. Printing is quick and quiet and I experienced no paper jams yet. The colors are bright and both the text and the graphics are crisp - I printed some very complicated flowcharts and a colorful logo to test and I was satisfied with the result. Out of the box, over 200 PCL and PostScript fonts are supported. Other features include 128Mb of memory, support for various paper sizes and paper types including glossies and envelopes, it can be set to go into PowerSaver mode after a period of inactivity (and I reduced it from the 30 minute default to 5 minutes), can be set to produce an audible tone on various conditions, will produce Configuration pages with values for various settings and parameters including the environment's temperature and humidity. This printer should be ideal for the small office and it could be great for the home if the relatively large size does not bother you. In my case, it doesn't because it's going to stay in the basement. Memory expansion or wireless connections were not issues for me but those who have such

Most helpful customer reviews 50 of 53 people found the following review helpful.

Most helpful customer reviews 20 of 20 people found the following review helpful. Fast But Expensive By RM At the time I purchased this color laser, it was the best of the home consumer color laser printers available. What sold me was its blazing speed for both B&W and color printing. I have since added a second paper tray devoted exclusively to envelopes. While it is certainly a professional machine, therein lies one of its major drawbacks, i.e., no single feed envelope feeder slot. You have to manually change the feeder configuration and the software preferences each and every time you print even a single envelope. Sometimes the software gets stuck and won't revert to letter feed, and I have to shut it off and reboot to get it to go back. This is a very expensive printer to operate. Adding options is very costly. The unit is now as large as a Volkswagon too. I have had it about 8 months and am down to 1/4 left on the toner (an average home user and not doing photo printing). To replace the four toner cartridges will cost as much as the entire printer cost. It is hard to find supplies because this is a rare printer on the US market. Konica Minolta seems to aim it at the overseas market. I wish when they sell it here they would support it as well. In the end, as in all high technology, I should have waited to get a newer model at half the size and half the cost. It prints well though, and boy is it fast. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Overpriced and shoddy supplies By John D. Zeigler I purchased this printer largely because of the great price, the large capacity toner cartridges and the reputation of Konica/Minolta. The print cartridges are expensive, do not print but about half of the 6000 projected page rate, and tend to develop print problems long before the toner is used up. Steer clear of this product, because outside of speed, it simply does not perform as advertised. See all 2 customer reviews...

Installation of the 6122 went flawlessly under XP pro and has performed beautifully on everything from text documents to glossy photos. I have an older Photosmart printer and the prints from the 6122 look just as good. The printer comes with a two sided printing accessory (duplexer) which I absolutely love, Printing two sided documents is now a breeze and saves paper too. I also like the fact that this printer uses larger ink cartridges than the 5550 which was the other printer I was considering. If you buy this printer, you will not be disappointed. 35 of 36 people found the following review helpful. Great, except for the clunking sounds! By Natalie I have been an avid Epson user up until now. I'm very noise sensitive because I work at night and don't want to wake up the family while printing out documents. Epson is very loud so I decided to try this HP 6122. I've read that it prints very quietly, and I have to agree. HOWEVER, is everyone ignoring the fact that it makes a dreadful clunking noise BEFORE and AFTER it prints? It sounds as if it's falling off the table! One other thing - after you press print, there is a (longer than I'm used to) delay before it actually prints. This can be annoying if you need to print a bunch of different documents in a hurry.I do think the picture quality is right up there with the Epson Photo printers. If only HP would make their inks last as long as Epson! Overall, nice printer except for the clunking. 22 of 22 people found the following review helpful. Great printer for a good price By E. Callaway This is a quality piece of equipment. This is the mid-level HP on the market right now. I did a demo of this and the economy HP 3820, I liked this printer a bit better. This uses the larger, number 45, black ink cartridge that is generally about 2 dollars cheaper than the number 15 that the 3820 uses. The 45 has 42 ml of ink and the 15 only has 25 ml. They both use the number 78 tri-color cartridge. The nicest feature on this piece is the quick print speed; 20 ppm black and 12 ppm color. The 6122 has the 4800x1200 resolution that puts it right up there with most photo printers. The only problem is that doesn't use the longer-lasting photo ink. But, overall this is a good printer for a good price. It uses big ink tanks and they are reasonably priced. It is more solid than the 3820, but unfortunatly, my company went with the 3820 for price and size reasons. But, if you have the space, and the money, buy the 6122. See all 30 customer reviews...

By MKT Got this printer due to my 2 other very positive Brother Laser printers, HL5240 & MFC7840W, both excellent, fast and very reliable, the second reason is my old favorite, Konica Minolta 2300DL (Color Laser) is dying and hoping to combine the function with my still working Brother HL5240 to save space. Involved with design and illustrations, I print 80% of my work & documents in full color or combination text & color images, in short, I'm very color sensitive. Brother HL 4040CN is very easy to network even with Multi Window OS desktops, my home office got 2 Vista, 2 XP pro & a XP Media Center PC. Very fast and good text printing quality, actually the color is not even that bad, if I'm not that sensitive. Pros: Easy to install and network. Flip up LCD minimized glare and makes it easy to read the text and ink monitoring. Fast wake up from sleep or energy saver mode, I really like the light blinking when the machine it in progress or warming up. Easy front access both for toner replacement, paper tray & bypass paper slot, kind of idiot proof. Noise level when printing and warm up is comparable to my other laser printers, probably less. Heavy and looks like it's very well built. USB interface on the front is a plus. Cons: Color prints are warmer and slightly purple & green compared to the output from my Epson Inkjet & Magicolor prints. On the Green side, I think Brother should redesign their packaging, the unit is almost the same size as HP but the box is 100% more, it's so big that I can't even fit it in regular NYC yellow cab, I probably need to rent a UHAL van the next time I buy one of this. I was trying hard to love this printer and keep it even though the color prints are a little off, not until when my nephew drops by, look at the print and said to me, "nice terrazzo floor with beige field and gray border", with that comment, I realized it's time to return the printer, since the actually floor have white field and green borders. In fairness, I replaced this with a HP CP1518ni, Hp is even worst, prints much darker than any of my color laser, slower than Brother, slightly prints more red & orange, not as sharp and very muddy. I end up getting another Konica Minolta, Magicolor 2550, it's the closes match of a laser print that you could get to a decent ink jet print. But if I have to pick between Brother and HP from this experience, I'll take Brother without hesitation. And finally.....Thank you Staples, you are the best. 10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. As good as you can get for the price By D. J. McCullough I was a bit concerned by other's reviews regarding the edges curling but tried an in-store demo prior to purchasing it at the best price I could find- here at Amazon, and didn't find it to be a huge deal. I do find there is a slight curl but for me it seems go away as the pages sit on my desk and the color is far more superior to other demos I tested in the same price range so I'd definitely recommend this printer. 8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Excellent printer By Matthew Maples I picked this printer up at Øffice Ðepot yesterday and with some help because it weighs 64 pounds, got it home. Setup is very easy, even for someone without any experience with computer hardware. Just push a tab in, open the front, remove all the bright orange shipping things, pull out the drum unit, slide in the toner cartridges which match the letters (K into K, C into C, etc..), install the software, plug in the USB or Ethernet cable (which you supply yourself), and you are ready to print. Before you print, however, make sure you open the printer settings and configure it the way you want. Also access the printers menu and configure those. The DirectPrint option to print PDFs and JPG files from a USB drive directly is nice, but some USB drives will not work
