HP 5500 Color LaserJet Printer

22PPM 96MB 1500+ SHEET TRAY

Brand: HP Model: C9656A#ABA Original language: English Dimensions: 197.00 pounds 600 x 600 dpi resolution, 400 MHz processor, 96 MB RAM 21 ppm in monochrome and color, just 18 seconds to first page out Optional input capacity of 1,600 sheets Bidirectional parallel port, Fast Infrared (FIR) port Network options with 3 open EIO slots

Whether printing brochures or spreadsheets, newsletters or business presentations, the HP Color LaserJet 5500 provides high-quality documents while meeting all your time-critical deadlines through in-house printing. Featuring inline printing technology--using a "direct to page" process--the 5500 transfers toner directly to the paper, ensuring exceptional print quality. This technology also supplies a true rarity among printers: you can expect your color pages to print at the same speed as your monochrome documents. The 600 x 600 dpi resolution guarantees crisp text, while the 96 MB RAM (expandable to 416 MB) and 400 MHz processor churns out these impressive sheets at 21 pages per minute, even when they contain graphics. Flexible paper trays and networking options make this an ideal choice for busy offices, while a clean, simple design and few supplies make for economical, idiot-proof operation. Hewlett-Packard includes a one-year warranty that covers parts and onsite labor.

The color LaserJet 5500HDN model comes with (3) 500 sheet trays + a 100 Page multipurpose tray. It comes with a network card,HD,Duplexor and a stand to roll the printer around. It is capable of printing up to 11x17 paper and custom sizes. This printer was very easy to assemble ( less then 10 minutes) and was on the network in seconds. Color matching is superb. It was able to print very demanding documents in short order. It really prints at 21PPM in full color. I printed over 500, full bleed 11x17 prints in just over 3 hours. This is like printing 2000 sheets of 8x11 at a speed of 11.3 PPM. This really tested the printer's endurance and its calibration cycle. It surprised me how easy it was to install the toner cartridges. I haven't experienced a paper jam yet, but if I did, there is a small path to follow to locate jams, and easily remove paper. There aren't 14 secret doors to open to remove paper. It really has done a good job handling the work load I put to it. This is a REALLY good office printer. It has done a tremndously good job on printing corporate logos. This is important because it can handle the most demanding color changes with out banding or stressing. I was surprised at how acurate the images I printed out were, that I had described previously. When I looked at my first document and then looked at the last document, the color accurace was 100% consistant through out it's printing cycle. This printer has been the best performing color laser I have ever used. This has my highest recommendations ! 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Printer Workhorse with Good Color By Donald Schneider The HP 5500 is a great tabloid (11x17) printer. Very good speed and color. Have had no problems. Print speed is as advertised. Toner cartridges hold plenty of toner - though they are expensive. Black and white printing is also great.Machine is rugged. Buttons and trays are well built. LCD infomation screen is readable and easy to understand. My model has the extra tray and stand with duplexer and network card. I do not have a hard-drive in my model. Memory is ample for printing tabloid size photos, engineering drawings, and documents. Lengthy letter size documents are no problem. Have not had a single time-out. Another HP winner. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. This blows away other printers.... By T. Kautzman I have had an HP 5500 Color LaserJet printer for 6 years. There is very little that this printer can not do! Love the ability to print 11 x 17 and wide variety of paper types. The toners are expensive but last a long time. The print quality is superb and the speed makes quick work of any project I have. Large paper tray and easy to access bypass tray. I would keep this printer forever but space and needs are making me look for a multi function printer. This is a great printer for a graphic artist, school, or anyone that demands high quality color printing. You will not be disappointed. Be aware that it is a pretty good sized piece of equipment.HP 5500 Color LaserJet Printer See all 3 customer reviews...

Just use a program to acquire the image with the supplied twain driver, which by the way, is a nice piece of software. And fast. Got my samsung hardwired to my network. My wireless laptops can print to it no problem. Wakes from sleep fast, prints fast, and its quiet. Nothing to complain about. It really is like having a full blown office machine in your home. 11 of 11 people found the following review helpful. Update - Uh oh By dlmh Update:My 1 year warrantee ran out 2 months ago. Scanner started to cause vertical black lines to appear on one side. There was probably dust or something on the scanner lens. I cleaned the external glass but it was no help. Since I was beyond the warrantee Samsung referred me to a service center nearby. Just for the hell of it I decided to pick up the printer and jump up and down, hoping to dislodge whatever was causing the blockage. It worked!I had a problem like this with an old scanner and all I had to do was take off the outer glass and clean the scanner lens. But ... jumping up and down worked just as well.Original review:Have had the machine for a year. During that time I used up the included toner cartridge and much of a replacement cartridge, with about 3400 total pages (according to the printer). It's given me no trouble at all. Print quality is fine (I'm a home user but I would not hesitate to use this as a small office machine).Downsides are minor for me, but may not be for others:1. It's relatively loud. I have it set to go into sleep mode almost immediately so it doesn't make any noise in between printing. But it makes a warm up whoosing sound before it prints and the printing itself is relatively noisy.2. It's not a network scanner. It can only scan to a computer that is connected via usb.Other than that I really can't say a negative thing about it.Set up is easy, either via the on-board lcd or even better, via a web interface over the network. My advice - give it a network address asap via the lcd. Then enter the address as a url in your PC's browser and you can access all the other settings over an easy to use web page.Have had no problems at all with the scanner, the automatic document feeder or manual feeder. The included software is rudimentary but is simple and works fine. One aesthetic issue: The Amazon product image makes it look like the paper tray is a draw. It is not. It's a fixed tray that protrudes a few inches in front of the printer when the tray contains paper. The protruding portion is covered by an opaque plastic cover. When the paper tray is empty, the front part is hinged so it can be lifted to be flush with the printer (as in the image). This is both a positive and negative. When open, it takes up a little more desk space. But the paper is always in view so you easily tell if you are running low. Personally I never lift up the tray. 16 of 19 people found the following review helpful. I love this machine By V. Muccioli Although I did not buy it from amazon, I feel this is the best place to review it. I bought this printer cheaper than it probably should have been. There was an easyrebate involved. So I was thrilled about that. When I got the box opened it took about 5 minutes to set it up. I installed the drivers and everything was up and running in no time. It was a real breeze. I have it set up via USB connection, so I cannot comment about its network capabilities. I did run a series of tests on its scanning however. There are a couple of different parameters to set for the scanner. There are the resolution and color settings. For resolution, obviously the higher the resolution, the finer the image. If you are scanning text however, it doesnt require very high resolution. I found all the text on my utility bills legible at 200dpi, just one setting above the lowest

An impressive product and company backing it up By Leonard Lafrance After getting a Macbook Air and finding out that my HP OfficeJet 845xi was not supported (what does that say about HP), I decided to buy a Brother MFC-8680DN and what a pleasant surprise -- I took it out the box, plugged it in and it worked, no questions asked. Recently, I changed my network and it caused problems connecting to my MAC laptop -- I called Brother and got brilliant support and what a pleasant surprise -- they directed my support call to a tech specialist that specialized in both Brother and Apple -- what a pleasant surprise -- HP is done selling me printers. 14 of 14 people found the following review helpful. Excellent small office all-in-one By J. Bonagofsky Great print speed (32 ppm!), very good print quality. Legal size flatbed scanner. A workhorse of a machine for a small office and a really great price (though I did find it cheaper at my local Costco). Reasonably priced refills on the 8,000 high capacity copy toner cartridges mean that the cost-per-copy is superior to most other brands. This is a solidly built machine, not a flimsy feeling hunk of plastic like some other brands I might mention (HP, Xerox Phaser series, Samsung). This was my second Brother printer to replace a different brand (this one replaced a substandard Xerox Phaser multifunction machine, and my HL-2170W replaced an HP Laserjet 1020). Brother is doing it right, and in my opinion, is the best small business printer/MFC manufacturer these days. I've shopped around for a long time and tested a lot of machines before buying, and Brother was the best I saw. 13 of 13 people found the following review helpful. Brother 8680DN Review By Realtor I bought this all in one to replace a high end HP that I bought 8 years ago. Installation took less than 15 minutes and that includes loading the driver. The main reason I choose this unit was the ability to scan to a PDF and have the file either emailed to me or deposited into a file on my computer. I took about 15 minutes to figure out how to configure the email but once I located the proper set-up screen it was a snap. The network feature works seamlessly with all four of our laptops (one is a MAC) and only required 5 minutes to install the driver. Print/Copy functions are easy and fast. I haven't tried the duplex yet but I consider that a bonus. The printer came with the high volume toner cartridge (8000 copies) compared to the standard HP 1000 copy starter cartridge. Price at Costco was just $349. See all 9 customer reviews...

Zogby Recently upgraded to MS Vista and almost at the same time, ran out of ink on my two HP printers, one for pictures and an older All in One. The L7580 had just been released and I was particularly interested in its ability to print using less ink at a resultant cost savings over my two existing printers. When I got it and printed out the test page, I jumped because of the speed at which the page kicked out. I had to use this with a temporary HP print driver on my Vista machine, but the full Vista driver is now available. Installed the new driver (all 360 Mbytes) without any problems. I am happy with all its features. Have not had any problems with this since I took it out of the package. The front display shows the status of your ink cartridges which is helpful. Also, the ink cartridges now all use the same number on the package so you can easily find replacement cartridges without having to remember multiple numbers. Picture and scanner quality is excellent for my standards and needs. It comes with a slot to insert memory cards, but since I use Photoshop to prepare my pictures, I have never used this feature on this system. If this is important, then the larger display of the next model up would be desirable. Four stars means I am very happy with this printer. I would consider five stars if I was more of an aficianado of the various printers out there and could speak more knowledgeably about other models. 40 of 42 people found the following review helpful. Big waste of time - great printer for the competition By R Green After spending a day and a half with technical support, I returned the printer and purchased a Canon MP530. Here are some of my suggestions:1. If you end up buying one and need to call tech support, try to get the Canadian call center - they are helpful and my multiple hours on the phone was as pleasant as could be2. Not all the features in the manual are available on all models. the digital file cabinet for example is only available on the very high end one. note to HP: spend a couple of extra dollars and either print separate manuals or at least spell out which features are available on which models. And it's not like they chopped down trees to print the manual. it's a digital file yet they didn't take the couple of hours that it might have taken to customize the manual.3. the software is the worse i've seen. It never installed correctly and HP took me through a full hour of manually uninstalling the many different parts to re-install. waste of time as I never could get the printer to be recognized the second time4. I set up the canon mp530 in 30 minutes earlier today and I've been smiling ever since.5. And before the hp people discount this review as someone not technically astute, my primary business for ten years was digital printing and pre-press. I've been part of the industry for many many years. 38 of 42 people found the following review helpful. This thing just won't install correctly By G. Zichermann Bought the 7530 in all its overpackaged glory today. Brought it home and began the arduous process of setting it up (30 mins of labor just installing ink/paper/print heads). After bringing it online, it began its self-test and installation routine. During the install, the printer gave me 3 paper jam errors (there were no paper jams) and failed to initialize.I then called HP support where I was routed to an Indian call center and put on hold for 33.5 minutes without talking to anyone knowledgeable. Three further calls to support resulted in misrouted queue requests ("Your product appears to be out of warranty"), until I finally reached Chris. Chris had absolutely zero insight or valuable assistance to offer me in setting up this printer.Let me be clear - I'm a very experienced technology CEO - and am really comfortable setting up devices like printers. But companies

Moore I moved up to this printer from an (excellent) Magicolor 3100 printer. My basic requirements were large format printing (11x17), cover paperhandling, color, speed and duplexing. The printer arrived palleted.First, the printer is very heavy, and two of us had difficulty settingit up. I would almost recommend a lift table to handle it. I plan toget the high capacity feeder both for the extra trays, and also for away to get it around, since it is really to heavy to lift without adolly or other aid. The HCF has wheels on it, and basically convertsthe printer to a roll around waist height machine. The C9650 is a LED printer, meaning that it uses a bar of LEDs to dothe same job as a rotating laser. This both gives it both less rotatingparts as well as simpler mechanics. The bar has 66000 leds (600x11"),and there are four of them, one for each color. There is a version ofthis printer with 1200x1200 resolution, which means a LED bar withtwice the number of LEDs, but the price increment is more than the costof this printer at almost $4000 (yikes!). The odd sounding 1200x600resolution of the c9650 printer comes from the fact that although theLED spacing is fixed, the modulation of the LEDs across the width ofthe paper can be increased to 1200 dots per inch easily.Oki is one of the few makers of pure LED driven printers. I have no ideawhy LED based printers have not taken over the market due to theadvantages of this type of print head. Possibly it is just far cheaperto make scanning heads than LED bars. The first comparision was to my older 3100 printer, which claims1200x1200 print resolution against the C96450's 1200x600. There was nocontest, the C9650 was far clearer and sharper than the 3100 on photosI fed both. In addition, the C9650 produced far less paper curl thanthe 3100, a fact I attribute to the simpler paper path of the C9650.In fact, the C9650 produced copy that was virtually flat. I wasimpressed. Low curl is important in my one-off binding application. The other reason I chose this printer was because it can print coverstock without complaint (gsm 300 or better). This is due to the abilityof the printer to both input and output such thick material directlyfrom the sides of the printer with (as the brochure says) almost aperfectly straight printer path. This also be attributed to theprinters simplified LED print path, but to be fair there are othernon-LED printers that can do this. I use the ability to print coversto feed a one-off perfect binding operation with a BQ-140 binder and aTriumph paper cutter. The C9650 will (according to the brochure) alsoaccept longer than 17" material, which will be essential for 8.5x11"binds, because of the 1-2" of spine needed at the back of the book. All in all, so far this is shaping up to be an outstanding printer. Thefew negatives I had were the fact that the printer was shipped with thewrong toner cartridges in the box (they fixed it quicky and said ithas happened before, but it says something about quality control atOki), and a salesman at Oki who told me that this printer is considereda low volume item at Oki, to be discontinued. The 11x17 market needs this kind of printer. I notice that othercompanies, including Xerox, are reselling this printer. One maker iseven marketing it as a "super thick" stock printer (they may modify itfor this purpose). The bottom line is that this is a workhorse printerable to do jobs that other printers cannot. The large format market isnew, neglected in my opinion, and the large format market with thickstock ability is only a handfull of machines.Scott Moore,San Jose, CA 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
