Not so good for Mac users By Kevin Nicholls For comparison, I have an inkjet Canon PIXMA MX870 multifunction wireless connectivity I am using as a reference point in the workforce Epson 840, since they are competing products in the same segment. While Epson promotes the amount of space saved on the desktop 840, the space has not disappeared, it was simply increased. The 840 is surprisingly high. So much so that its use in an enclosed space can be difficult. Out of the box, I realized that the unit feel a little weak. Aside from the flatbed scanner, all from the ADF tray to the paper trays as if they had felt the pressure, without much force. The very simple configuration, it is unlikely that buyers who need to look at the setup poster to start. Take the tape, the fall of cartridges and turn it on again. The menu system is quite logical, and get the printer to my wireless network for about a minute in a minor quibble train on this one: they want 840 for up to five minutes to calibrate itself when you switch to use initially, and disables menu in the process. The scoreboard was surprisingly sharp, when the touch sensitive areas is not consistently register receipt. On both sides of the color LCD, you have a series of touch-sensitive "buttons" that light up when they are relevant to the context menu. It was good for most things were some of the icons a bit cryptic in context. Overall I found the interface to be a little on the gimmicky side, and would have preferred to have a few soft keys instead. Printing is everything you expect from Epson. The text was very sharp boundaries for "cheap laser" quality images and so incredibly well on the "cheapest you can get me" copy paper. Without question, the 840 kicks out crisp black text faster than any other printer I have used. But .. Mixed content is not nearly as fast. A good example is the built-in ability to ruled paper and graph paper print. The function is pretty cool, but ruled a page takes a painful time. A major peculiarity is the way to deal with selected Epson paper. They tout the upper pattern is versatile enough for any paper or envelopes less than 11 x 17 deal you can imagine, and that the bottom of the cartridge have a whole stack of paper. That's good. The problem is, expected 840 binding in the top drawer and there is no way to set globally for use in the lower cartridge. Yes, you can set the cartridge 2 to be used in the driver ... if you have a Mac. If you use a Mac, some programs you can change the settings for Paper (pack and cartridge 2 at a time), but some programs do not. In Windows, if you in a workgroup, each computer driver set to "large" pattern. If you have a Mac, this is not where the pain ends Scanning is fairly quick for an all-in-one and also a very average quality. I want a stack of paper into the feeder and they are scanned into the computer? No problem. Hit "Scan", "Scan to PC" and select the network computer. Unless you have a Mac While multifunction printers Canon has been able to do this for years, Epson can not scan the network for Macs with Leopard. Just to be sure, I have the latest drivers from the Epson website, without success. For Windows users, the 840 employees is a multifunction inkjet solid. The materials are too fragile to use workgroup sustained, but it's certainly good for an office user who would like to reinforce the distinctive look of the Epson printer. For Mac users, though, I really can not recommend it. The drivers are not good, and you lose the functionality of the box. Updated Mac OS Lion - August 2011: For this application, I use the printer on a clean install Lion for something more than a week

Excellent color laser printer for home or small business by David Efflandt An issue paper sensor with my old HP LJ4L gave me an excuse to find a new printer. It is used intermittanly, so I wanted a laser is usually in my basement, so I wanted to network and duplex and color would be not too expensive. After looking at all possibilities, my head spin and I was ready to settle for a monochrome laser printer with networking and duplex. But when I stumbled on the new Lexmark C543dn color laser on the sale, that everything I wanted, a high resolution color laser with duplex and network it. The review I could find was the C543dn of [..] that thought the colors were very vivid. PC Magazine Editors Choice gave similar C544dn faster and a text only criticism of less than 4 or 5 points. It can not be small, but it's not as big as some color laser printers, and I was able to carry and place it on my little outside help OpenOffice Writer does not even list fonts smaller than 6 points, and Word 2007 are not specified fonts than 8 points (if the fonts to shrink). French script can begin to detail at four points to lose, but Arial is fully formed at three points, and Times New Roman is easy to read (with a glass magnifiying) at 3 points, with only a small deviation in the small "e" . As far as I can tell, the text of any normal size is sharp and well formed. When I started to print pictures have colors seem to be alive. But the standard if you "image", select the printer properties is "sRGB Vivid". If you select "Text", select also uses sRGB Vivid, to ensure that you get solid text. The standard "text / graphics" used sRGB displayed on the laws of your computer. These and other color options can be set from the printer's web interface (or print properties menu when printing.) I still find red and blue a little 'heavy for my taste (too orange-red and green to blue), or perhaps not enough yellow color printer so I settled on these changes for today: RGB Brightness = 1 (0 default) = Cyan - 1 (0 default) Magenta = -2 (0 by default) that works for me with the "Text / Graphics" default to print pictures pdf documents natural appearance. I can not select the text if it is only printing text. The setting of the images may be better for color brochure or if you expect the colors. The only criticism that other [..] was the cost of supplies. But Lexmark has introduced a rewards program that gives you all the 10 black or colorless, and a free imagers when you need it. While bringing the cost of the typical of this class of printers to 3 cents / page in black and 15 cents for color. The C543dn is rated for 35,000 impressions per month, but high-yield color cartridges are good for 2000 pages black and 2500 pages and imagers are designed for 30 000 pages. Users of the high volume of business so high that they need something bigger with more capacity tones, but for a casual user, with some adjustments, I am very satisfied with the Lexmark C543DN and I can not imagine what could be better for my needs (as a wireless, which is optional). Comments: Even if you are one of the few people who read and follow the instructions, the printer will check that the packaging when you showed up. The C540 comes with the 1000 pages of notes, C544 is faster and has a USB port to print photos from a memory card or camera without a computer. 30 of 30 people found this review helpful. Almost perfect by A. Bluf Lee: I am very pleased with this printer, although it has some warts. PRO: Excellent, excellent black print quality. High quality color printing. The color quality of photos quite acceptable, despite inkjet paper quality is better. Excellent print speed, when it starts. Duplex printing is very useful. Reasonably quiet. Physical space is less than color laser printers I've seen many ports including USB and network (Ethernet 10/100). However, this printer seems to offer the best overall.

Large networks can color laser printer with duplex with USNA 76 I bought this printer earlier this week to replace an HP 2600n, which had failed. The software is installed smoothly on four computers running Windows Vista or Windows XP operating systems. No problems with printing on any (or all) of your computer. The printer prints in both color and B & W very quickly. Double-sided printing works great. The prints are high quality. The only problems so far: 1 Software installation is offered as standard or custom installation options. Although I chose the custom option, the software gave me no choice about the setup and everything has been installed on all four computers. I had to call customer service and then remove unnecessary software on three computers. 2nd HP default setting for this printer: Stop. This option keeps the printer from printing when a cartridge, the end of their expected life, I found that an ink cartridge several hundred pages of life left, if this is achieved has been achieved. You can override this setting: overwriting. 91 of 93 people found the following review helpful. Never again on inkjet! In what may be a great printer! After spending a small fortune in the last 6 years with two top-of-the-line Epson Stylus Photo inkjet printer, I had enough when my R1800 has chewed up 50% of the 6 cartridges are just trying to get the jets cleaned . . .. all of $ 14/cartridge. So I'm brand new little research and found the HP CP2025n. What a joy! I hung it from the home router with a network interface and leave it 24 hours a day. It goes into sleep mode (from which it draws only a few watts), but immediately wakes up the pressure begins within 20 seconds. And does not crash and roar and make all kinds of effort: just out! This is what I call an office of the intensity of their home or personal use semi-intensive four people using it, 3 Windows, Mac 1, and everyone loves him. Using the HP LaserJet glossy photo paper even produce good images - no closer than one would R1800 but at a fraction of the cost, about 50 times faster, is completely waterproof, and the quality is light enough for a photo project at school by mail to his family , photo albums, etc. But the main thing that will not be used for the impression of CVS and other costs only 10 to 15 cents for a 4x6. Since inkjet printers seem nothing more than cash cows for manufacturers of printers and scandalously small number of pages you get out of a set of cartridges and the fact that the vast majority of printing is not for photos anyway - but the daily text / graphics seem Laserjet the only the way forward. From this perspective, this seems to be the best money I ever invested in a printer and I recommend - you will not regret it 47 of 47 people found this review helpful. Instead of printing Kinkos By Alberto Cid After spending a small fortune in printing flyers Kinko's, I have this printer. It's great. Kinko same quality. Now, to spend a fortune on toner, but a full-page color estimate a savings of 20% this printer via Kinkos, but if the pages do not have a background color, the savings are even greater, such as Kinko's charges per page, regardless the amount of toner used. * Update * June 9 that he had printed the documents sufficient to make a best guess, my costs are ~ 60% to 80% less than Kinko's printing. Paper included. If printing of Adobe products, use the Universal Declaration of PS driver for the colors as you see it on a calibrated monitor. PCL5 drivers for some reason I do not get the correct colors. See all 73 customer reviews ....

Client more useful in 40 of 40 people found this review helpful. Ahhh, MFC-9970 MFC-9840CDW is better than with Skeeme08 I just received my Brother MFC-9970CDW little less than a week ago. So far the print quality is significantly better than what I experienced with the Brother MFC-9840th It's almost night and day in terms of color quality. I have never appreciated the quality of 9840, but 9970 gives me a much greater color quality. Definitely made an improvement in this area. In 9970 touchscreen is nice to have. It is not a 'wow' factor for me, but it's something different, but nothing to be desired. In 9970 appears to be made with cheaper plastic quality that seems to make the printer a little 'more fragile, but we'll see how it holds up ... I've only had less than a week. But with that said, 9970 seems to be a little 'more (and a little' more) thinner than 9840th My only problem so far with the MFC-9970 is the installation CD that came with your printer is not working on my Windows XP laptop I had to go to the Brother website and download the latest installation package and software. This delayed my printer settings a bit, because I had to restart at least twice before I realized it just to prove the Brother website. When I did, I had no other problems installing the printer drivers. Now I can use my printer for business presentations and not having to run to Staples or Kinkos 9840 because of printing in color was too embarrassed to show to all customers. Glad you got a second chance with his brother in 9970, because eventually it will get my money's worth. I have not really checked 4 Control Center that comes with this printer model, but I hope we have made some improvements here. I recommend this printer for a small company looking for a copy of the all-in-one / print / scan / fax solution. 33 of 33 people found this review helpful Good but not great. Read update by D. Dell, I have two Brother printers. One is an all-in-one inkjet printer and the other is a black and white laser printer. I am happy with them and never had any problems. They have a pretty good job, but I wanted something a little better and believed a color laser printer would be the way to go. Brother MFC-9970CDW This has good and bad points. First, the letters is clear and sharp. But the color's are only slightly above average in quality. There are also some minor banding (lines) on the fixed output. The banding is not so bad and hardly noticeable, but it should not. And I've tried everything the manual says to correct the problem, but nothing helped. Anyway, I can live with. The biggest complaint I have is the curl. Another reviewer was correct. The heavier paper, the more severe curling. Duplex printing speed is 6 pages in 1 minute and is plain text with one hand and a map on the other side Do not be fooled by claims of fast in any normal day. However, the scanner is extremely fast. OCR software with text is very precise. Handwriting is another story, and at best, problematic. So who is to be expected. Wireless Setup was easy. The printer recognizes the network and then I had to install the driver on my PC. This printer can be drawn through the paper and heavy double-sided printing is a real time saver. In addition, the printer did a good job throughout. However, if you are concerned about the paper curl, then stay away from this printer. Update page curling. I found a way to help the industry caused severe curling of the printer. First take all the paper from the tray. Next, place your payment in the print tray. Do not use more than 50 pages at a time. And make sure the green slip of paper with two small hooks are in place in the final document This is necessary to hold the paper in

Large cross-platform multi-functionality of the Bill, I have a network with both Windows (XP and 7) and Mac (10.5.8) machines, and needed a new printer. I was looking for a reliable IBM Infoprint 12 already in use on the network (via a router with print server) more than 10 years (and only two patterns) to replace. I also discussed the establishment of the InfoPrint, but I was not sure what it would take, and I needed a solution now. In the beginning I was just thinking of a stand-alone laser printers, both in terms of cost and function, but then decided to look at the multi-functional machines that I have an inkjet printer with multiple functions (which can only be used by I have driven machine) I did not object to remove. These are the criteria I had in mind as a product: * Laser Printing: for freshness and consumables used (my inkjet printer seemed to drink ink, or dry) * Duplex: One of the things I liked, InfoPrint over the 12 is the absence of duplex * compatibility across multiple operating platforms * Ability to LAN and not directly with the USB I was not worried about the size of the device to scan as it was about his own table has (although it is very compact) I was not on the fax functionality of the machine. Although it is nice to have, if needed, I had used my old multi-function, by fax at once. Based on this account, I could not find anything, they met and the Brother MFC-7860DW. There are some higher caliber machines, but these were designed for active use and their price down, know that some might think, MFC-7860DW is expensive, but there are others that are much longer. Since the MFC-7860DW is very new, I had some questions and wanted to see one in action, but I was not able to find was in the shops all my most important question of compatibility between software platforms OS. A product of the brother and sister (the HL-2270DW) had very good reviews in terms of platform support, but I've been on the assumption that pre-sales brother cremated, so I sent an e-mail support. They confirmed that the full functionality was support for Mac and Windows. It was time to buy! I checked some prices online and chose the Amazon. Of course they were a few dollars more than the lowest, but I like the speed of delivery, customer service and return (if required). I wanted to create not (yet) another account for a single purchase. The package came with a few bumps and tears in it (thank you UPS), but intact, the printer in a shell of polystyrene foam and away. Unzip it was a breeze, and the first copy function test was - was great! I then connected to an open port on my router and started the software, my Windows XP machine had some problems with the PaperPort software. I did not have to scan from this machine, so I installed the printer driver and went on. The installation is completed in Windows 7 machine was fine. The full installation on my Mac was even easier. The novelty of the product I had the latest versions of the software also held. Now I have installed, functional, and run through a lot of paper I'm glad I chose this. He not only answered my main criteria as previously listed, I have come to appreciate these elements as: * a 250-page paper tray (I do not like the other printers expose the paper to gather dust) * The toner save mode wired or capacity to the wireless network (wire, I chose it because the next item) * super sleep mode (available only if the network cable) * separate: toner and drum design (I think it's good because they have different lengths of service) So do not think negative? If I had to pick one it would be the noise level is louder than the InfoPrint 12 was, but I can live with that given the other advantages of the machine. 53 of 56 people found this review helpful. Attractive and fast .. And 'on this. For the sunflower I bought this from OfficeMax not on Amazon.com. In this way, I.

Laser All In One with good flat bed with Yi Feng Overall this is a good all-in-one laser printer for the price of consumer-class printers. Here are some detailed comments. 1st The automatic document feeder is designed well - the situation that proceed through several pages at once, never happened (in HB 3050, it happens a lot). 2nd Canon offered a well-designed user interface - features are easy to follow and operate, including scan / printer / copier. 3rd The automatic duplex printing is very good, and make the printer worth what you paid. But when you use automatic double sided printing - printing speed is less than one third (instead of six), because the mechanical parts need a lot of time to turn the paper. 4th As some of you might have worried, makes the latest firmware (09/02/2009) Scanning function seamlessly on a Mac - all you need is to press the Scan button. This is on a Leopard Mac mini tested. 5th If some of you want to know the compatibility with print server, this printer is fully compatible with the Netgear PS121 print server with Windows Vista (including the automatic duplex) x86 and x64 is not compatible Netgear PS121 Mac running Leopard (no idea why - the Installation went smooth and Prints by - nothing out of the printer). This printer is not compatible with Maxtor Central Axis print server. In summary we can say it's a good printer for the price. But on its powerful function, you can spend a little more money for the 4370n, to allow each function on the network - if you work in a network environment. 55 of 56 customers found this review helpful. Good but some problems with printing K. Schrock I bought this machine on Amazon in November. Overall I was satisfied. Duplex printing has been an important feature for me, and that seems Canon printer cheaper than other companies offer. I do not have much experience to base my judgments, but I think the print quality is very good, with few exceptions, the first pair, the impression is sometimes convoluted on paper, especially on the face back in duplex mode. However, the representative of Canon I complained to say that the variance within 2 mm is considered acceptable, so I measured and this printer is within tolerance. It 'clear, however, on those forms, occurs as a printer. (. In fact, the cheapest Dell inkjet printers to print my right) The other problem appears even when printing on both sides: on the back there are a lot of press out of focus from top to bottom, in which the toner has no obligations. It seems that on the first page after the printer Sat idle for some time. The Canon representative had no answer, he had not heard of this before. Yes, you can scan from the machine if you download the updated firmware. I think I buy if I had to do more. It 's fast and has the distinct impression. If you want to compare, I looked canons are the MF4150, MF4270 and MF4370dn 152 of 172 people found the following review helpful. Can not scan documents from the Start button on the machine by Punkin'ma little disappointed after playing with this copier imageCLASS MF4350d. Please note that Canon calls it a copier, not a printer. So when you call Canon or search your site for help / support, do not forget to select the "Copier" category. The imageCLASS MF4350d has been around a while, but no one reports this problem: by the time of writing this review, the machine can not scan a document using its own START button. Everything has to be verified by the "toolbox" computer software. I bought a few days ago. Canon 100-800 called for help, but without success. So I went to the store and tried the demo kit, but has the same problem. Every time I press the Start button on the scanning machine, there is always a sound like a setback, but the display shows no errors - always shows "Scan Mode" So I rang.

Best all-in-one I could find for the Mac by MD Mitchell This is the newer version of the Brother MFC-8860, and is a step up from the 8890 and MFC-8480 offers full duplex scanning, copying and faxing. MFC-8480 only provides for two-sided printing. I have Mac computers - some of them - so I look around for a while for a laser multifunction machine I could use for printing, scanning, copying and the occasional fax. I'm well impressed with this machine so far, and after installing the CD, everything just worked. The printer driver is installed, it includes a fax option directly in the driver itself (at print setting tabs), and TWAIN driver for scanning, and so was their Control Center software that provides access to all settings for the printer documentation and a set of custom presets for the different functions of the printer (most useful for scanning different types of documents to different applications on the Mac, including an OCR function) The duplex is great - the ADF read both pages of documents for copying, scanning, faxing and even. The most expensive models (like 8480 and a Canon MF4370 I recently tested) only in duplexing is on, but 8890 should be read as well as to produce two-page documentation for each function. Networking Opportunities for Mac is also top-notch, with both wired and wireless networking capabilities, you can use all the features of the machine over the network, with seemingly fast transfer speeds, and high-resolution color scanning. Also, my previous printer preferred supplier, Canon does not support scanning the network for Mac on any of their multifunction printers, but it is not clear until you buy one and try to do it - their support has told me since this is true I think the only thing that is not networked Brother 8890 from a Mac is the fax machine - a sort of fax server supports Windows, Apple has no equivalent. But since you can simply scan a document and sent it to the Mac via the network in place, I just care. So if you want a machine that runs the network fully compatible with Mac, it's your machine. The 8480 is a bit 'less, but does not fully support double-sided printing, for those who have simple needs of the office. 47 of 48 people found this review helpful. Another good all-in-one Brother JB is my third or fourth All-in-one Brother. I've always been lucky with the brand and so far there is no different. She worked the large from the box, although the establishment of wireless LAN was not exactly easy, but even I, a non-Techy, get it working after about an hour of DIY. Plus I had to configure incoming faxes to work well with my 2-line distance telephone handsets with built-in answering machine (always a nail-stone face). On the problem wrinkles envelope, just follow the instructions of another reviewer who have posted here (thank you), opens the back door and push down the two handles are marked with the symbol of the envelope. Now drive my car with the handle down to 100% of the time without problems. Print well on plain paper, labels and envelopes. The scanner works well for business documents and double-sided option is very cool. I do not use the fax much, but the incoming faxes are working fine. 54 of 57 people found this review helpful. servicable, reliable, good price, but it has its problems by Brian I bought this when I opened my practice law itself. I have a small practice real estate law, but go through a lot of printing and copying, and this machine was reliable I use with my laptop and WiFi. I bought the tray for legal paper, it was pretty easy to install (although it should lift the printer and let it all right on top of the second compartment, a kind of delicate and difficult) and selecting sound correct paper size automatically. The good:.
