Customer more profit on 61 of 69 people found this review helpful. --- Good customer service printer has advantages and disadvantages D. I received this printer Elliott on January 22 and has achieved success last night (January 28). It 'too early for me to comment on the print quality. What I saw looks good but I only have four pages printed so far and have not tried the optional duplex unit. I am writing this review to comment on the HP customer support, from a previous comment was a totally negative. Some of my relationship with the customer support system were good and some were bad. I received the printer on a Thursday when I was at work. I could not log on to Saturday. Then I unpacked the printer and remove all protective strips, etc. When I turned it stopped right after the memory check with an error message "Raise a failure. RFU file download it now. RFU download the USB port" or something like this. I knew I was in difficulty. I went online and find the latest update (RFU = distance firmware update) and transferred to my Mac, but could not find a way to send to the printer, as the instructions said to use FTP (which runs through the Ethernet connection). It requires knowing the IP address of the printer, probably never, since the fault occurred so early in the boot process. And even if there was one there was no way of knowing what it is, because the buttons on the console is not answered. In addition, says the on-screen printer with a USB port. Nowhere in the instructions was the use of USB for a firmware update is mentioned. So I made my first call to tech support. One of the most appalling menu system is activated by voice. It took me several minutes to enter my answers as accurately as I could, and finally transferred to technical support. It was at that time told me that technical support hours are 5:00 to 5:00 MF PT and closed on the weekends I was out of business until Monday. Monday I called at 6:15. This time, I was saying how carefully the model number of my CP3525dn, the computer's voice interrupted me. He said he had determined that the printer was no longer under warranty, therefore, was not eligible for telephone support. He told me to use the e-mail system and hung up. If I had not gone further on Saturday, do not know what I would have done at this time. The most likely would have called the company that bought it and ran with it. But since Saturday, I knew that the real problem was the poor quality of his voice-activated system menus. So I tried again and finally, about 6:25, I'm connected to a real human being. The lady I first spoke to was polite and friendly, but obviously working from a script and not very knowledgeable. She worked with me for about 45 minutes. She told me to use USB to download the firmware update. But when I downloaded the file, nothing happens, they (my Mac reboot, power cycling the printer, etc.) I try many things. Several times I have put on hold for 5 minutes or so try to help customers get support from other reps. But nothing helped. They finally gave up and moved me from customer support to a department just as the "Hardware" means. The lady who was also polite and friendly and sounded much more knowledge. She worked with me for another 45 minutes. She asked me many questions and could see that the formatter board (mainly internal computer to the printer) was flawed. She thought it could be a bad connection of the memory module. She talked me through removing the formatter card and manipulate the printer. Then had me re-install the card and try again. The same error appeared immediately. And they promised me a new card Formatter.
