Let me end this review positives and negatives: Positives: 1) Excellent compatibility with OS X. I am currently using 10.6.5 and right out of the box's operating system recognizes the printer. I installed the driver CD anyway, because it comes with the scanning software. 2) The scanning software is awesome! No frills ... it just works! You can scan in tiff, jpg, pdf, etc. and adjust the settings in a very mindless. I assume that the scanning software is great for anyone who is not quite computer savvy. You can queue page scanning through software, as opposed to the buttons on the machine, hoping that your computer understands that you are trying to do. This may look like an idiot "positive" sound, I put it here because other machines (as some Canon) that you do just that, thus requiring unreliable communication network / intolerances 3) speed printing has become very fast. The box is called something like 27 ppm ... I do not know if it rises too fast, but from the beginning on the first page I think it only took about 45 seconds. The following pages probably came every 2 or 3 seconds. 4) The design is compact enough for a multifunction device. The keys do not feel cheap (like some of the cheapo inkjet printers). Not too bulky, not too heavy. Negatives: 1) The two-sided printing, duplex printing is loud. Many things can be done subject to mechanical noise as they wear out pretty fast machine. 2) I connected the first time that my machine, Airport Extreme via USB and tried to scan. The scanning software does not recognize the machine. So I restored Airport Extreme via Ethernet - which worked and 'a shame because AirPort Extreme has a USB port that is dedicated to a printer, and now I have to eat one of my 4 Ethernet connector. 3) While the design is fairly smooth, I would like to see built, so that the card does not protrude. I'm not a big fan of plastic "dust" over the paper tray ... It seems that it can break easily if you accidentally open the wrong one. Additionally, there is another hill, or fine, which is installed on the front page than the printed pages coming out of props - this piece seems to break if you put any weight on it (as the cat decides to stand) . But this machine is sooo much cheaper than others in its class. That said, all the negatives seem acceptable. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ UPDATE: (20/03 / 11) I used this machine for several months and begin to jam more often. Sticking it seems only happens if I print double sided, some comments on the two-sided printing: If you plan to write a long-ish record, a 20-page essay, double-side duplex is good for the job. But if you plan to print, say, 100 copies of a single page double sided flyer, it would be much much much faster to just use double-sided printing by hand. Allowing the duplex unit handle the same job took much longer than if I just manually turned back for the second pass. We have about 1-2 minutes when done by hand, compared with about 8 to 10 minutes via the duplexer (if not jam). So far I have collected over 1,500 pages to print. Using the "economy mode" set to 3 (of 5) I managed to only 20% of the shares cartridge. Not so bad. 17 of 17 people found the following review helpful.
