By Peter Beddow had considered purchasing a laser printer in the past, but my little inkjet seemed more profitable. Now that I'm in my thesis and the need to print 20 pages + items every few days - sometimes 9 or 10 at a time - the inkjet is more useful for my purposes. I have seen this printer for very cheap at Staples and decided to go for it. I'm not sure of the actual cost, since I only had the printer for a few days. I'm still using the starter toner that came with the printer. He went through almost 250 pages of text so far. I ordered high-yield (2,500 pages) Toner Staples for $ 61 including tax. Replacing the drum seems to be about $ 100 every 12,000 pages (all four toner cartridges). However it will cost you about $ 350 every 12,000 pages or so, if the printer lasts that long. This printer is small and lightweight, and very simple when you run out of paper, gives a red error message. It adds the paper, press a single key and it works again. Start-to-print time is very fast - less than 10 seconds after flipping the switch. I was amazed at how quickly the pages came out of this little thing (even faster than the HP 2300, which I have in my office). And yes, the lights dim in my apartment during printing. I use this with a MacBook Pro AirPort Extreme (it worked! First attempt!) I am confident in my purchase. By Snail This printer works fairly well, the only problem I have been a few jams as the rating was based on only the printer, I would give it four stars. But alas, the printer stops working when the toner to be low. Of course, brother of the printer stops working, otherwise you would see that there are tones. My printer stopped working after about one week to "show off his" message, which was ridiculous. Fortunately there is a simple way out of this scam, simply put some opaque tape on the transparent window area by the switch tones. A good value steve_oakland HL-2140 printer is a good value. It is fast and fairly quiet while producing high quality prints. I have an HP LaserJet 1022 also, and this printer seems to make prints of comparable quality. HL-2140 is quite compact so it fits on an average desktop without too much space on the other hand, I have some problems printing some PDF files. HL-2140 is only the first page and the print queue is stopped. It's either a problem with the printer driver, or Mac OS X 10.5, how can I solve this problem by restarting my computer. It is disappointing, but I am sure I the problem, either by another driver or to get Mac OS update fixed. And for the little ones that I paid for this printer, it's not a big problem at the moment. Are also on the downside, HL-2140 with non-manual has a very robust feeding. It can not keep a stack of paper - you literally need a sheet at a time when it is printed. I've tried to print 4x6 Note Cards, and HL-2140 was simply a mistake. I have not tried printing envelopes, but I am a little suspicious, it will work well.
